— 40 Years Ago

Earl Jines, publisher of the Pea Ridge Graphic, traveled to Des Moines, Iowa, to accept an honorable mention award in the Herrick Editorial category of the National Better Newspapers Contest.

Arkansas fiddling champion Frank Price of Pea Ridge came in 26th of 77 participants in the National Fiddling Contest in Idaho.

Ricky Webb, son of Mr.

and Mrs. Hugh Webb, Jr., was released from Rogers Memorial Hospital after being admitted for scrapes and bruises over most of his body as a result of a motorcycle accident.

30 Years Ago

The Pea Ridge School District unanimously elected the district’s first woman principal during a special session. Carol Ross, 36, was a 1961 graduate of Rogers High School, and replaced high school principal Jerry Marple.

Pea Ridge Jaycettes president Penny Wimmer outlined plans for what she hoped to be an annual Fourth of July celebration at Pea Ridge City Park.

The Pea Ridge City Council did not act after an emergency meeting called to consider a request from Pea Ridge Police Chief Loyd Pifer to enact an ordinance outlawing the sale of fireworks in the city. Pifer was upset by the lack of action and offered to turn in his badge if they no longer wanted to support him as chief of police.

20 Years Ago

The Rev. Paul Klinger, the new pastor of First United Methodist Church of Pea Ridge, said he considered his mission one of bringing back evangelism to the Methodist church. He was also appointed pastor of Oakley Chapel on Arkansas Highway 102 between Rogers and Bentonville.

Jack and Debbie Wilkey went into the yogurt business, purchasing and reopening Delishi-o-so!, formerly known as the Country Yogurt Shoppe at the intersection of U.S. Highway 62 and Arkansas Highway 72 in Garfield, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Rimmer.

The family of Nell Webb met at Pea Ridge City Park to celebrate her 87th birthday June 29. Hugh Webb, Jr., presented his mother with a picture of four generations including himself, his father, Hugh Sr., his son, Ricky Webb, and his grandson, Randon Webb.

10 Years Ago

Three local teens were in the running for the 50th Miss Pea Ridge. Amitty Ricketts, Laura Voytek and Danielle Smith were set to compete for the title.

The Benton County Board of Education was officially a defunct instrument. Act 1078 of the 1999 Arkansas Legislature was designed to dismember county boards of education across the state. Teachers’ certificates and licenses would from then on need to be filed in the office of the County Clerk.
