’Til Next Time | Evening walks orchestrated by nature’s sounds

Last week in writing class, the instructor drew a straight line about three inches long and gave us five minutes to write about it using single words, sentences or a story. I froze up on that one. I got as far as laser beam, Johnny Cash’s “I’ll Walk the Line” and a drunk walking a straight line. Other people blossomed out on the subject.

My so-called creative imagination took a real hit on that one.

While eating lunch with five women at the Adult Wellness Center, Sarah Head mentioned the name of her street and that brought the names of Fred and Goldie Calvin to mind. How nice to recall old memories of these kindand caring people. Sarah and I also enjoyed a game of Bunco last week at the ADC.

Most of my walks now are around dusk, waiting for a little coolness. There is a new colt down in one of the pastures and his mama and the rest of them come out that time of evening, also.

There are different sounds and movements that time of evening - the lightening bugs, an owl way down on the creek and other noises down along SugarCreek. Nature is never idle.

My sister in Iowa has a new cell phone and tells me she hopes no one will call on it because she is so unsure of how to use it. Yep, I remember that feeling, but it doesn’t take long to learn the basics. Both grandsons can pick it up and do amazing things with it, but I’m happy to just know how to answer it and make calls.

Is anyone else as tired as I am of hearing about the Bella Vista bypass? That has run on for years. When we first came down we drove under over-hanging bluffs. Of course, at that time, semi-trucks went through downtown Rogers.

We have some in ourchurch involved in the mission trip to Cookson Hills in July. Some have had surgery, one has shingles, one with bone cancer, one with lung cancer, a couple in nursing homes, and yet we all go forward in faith, love and trust.

Brightwater has planted two dogwood trees out front - one to honor all mothers, the other to honor fathers.

You can be certain of a warm welcome at Brightwater United Methodist Church. See you next Sunday?
