Pea Ridge Fair pageants seeking contestants

— Contestants are still being sought for the Miss Pea Ridge and junior Miss Pea Ridge contests to be held Wednesday, July 7, and Thursday, July 8, with the 60th annual Pea Ridge Community Fair.

The deadline for pageant entries has been extended to June 28.

There are currently three contestants for Miss Pea Ridge and one for Junior Miss Pea Ridge.

“I would love to see more support for the community,” Karen Kitterman,pageant committee chairman, said. “It’s a great opportunity to build self-esteem and confidence.

“This is for beauty inside and out,” Kitterman said, adding that there is no talent portion of the pageant.

Contestants for Miss Pea Ridge appear on stage in both street and formal attire and are interviewed by judges. For Junior Miss Pea Ridge, contestants appear in formal attire only.

Community and school involvement as well as hobbies and sports involvement are areas that apply to a young ladies’ profile in the judging.

The winners will be introduced to the community at a “Meet and Greet” at the Pea Ridge Museum Friday night from 7 p.m.

to 9 p.m. During the year, Miss Pea Ridge is asked to represent the community and assist Beta Alpha with the collection for St. Jude’s the weekend of the Mule Jump, the Thanksgiving dinner.

“If she wants to be in another pageant, we help support her and help pay her admission fees,” Kitterman said.
