— Work on streets in town should begin soon.

Bids for the drainage work on the streets were opened and the low bid from Seven Valleys Concretewas accepted.

City planners heard an update at their regular meeting from M.J.

Hensley, Planning Commission member and engineer. Hensley volunteered his time to the city to oversee the project.

The bids on drainage rangedfrom the low bid of $62,320.50 to a high bid of $117,000 from DECCO Contractors of Rogers. There were four bids received.

The project includes two drainage structures, Hensley said.

Hensley explained about changes in drainage under the streets.

“We’re changing that pipe to a 5- by 10-concrete box because that pipe has outlived its life time ... it’s a real wasp nest down there. We have culverts stacked on top of culverts. We won’t know what it looks like until we tear it all out,” Hensley told planners.

He said he hopes work orders can be issued by the firstweek of July for the drainage and overlay projects.

Planners agreed to review the landscape ordinance and address it at next month’s meeting.

In other business, city planners approved with conditions the large scale development plan for the safe room on the Pea Ridge School property and approved a home occupation for Ron Mullins, South Curtis Avenue.
