Mule art winners awarded

— Winners of the art contest for the city’s annual Mule Jump received cash and ribbons at last week’s Optimist Club meeting.

In support of the city’s annual Mule Jump, the Pea Ridge Optimist Club sponsored an art contest and received submissions from Pea Ridge students in grades kindergarten through seventh and one adult category submission.

Top artworks in each category were awarded ribbons with a $25 cash prize. Second and third place winners received ribbons. The categories were: preschool - 2nd grade, 3rd - 5th grade, 6th - 8th grade, 9th - 12th grade and adult.

Artwork could be of anything Mule Jump related (events, logo suggestions, etc.).

Leading up to the Mule Jump, winning artwork will be displayed at local businesses and weather permitting, displayed on site the day of the event. Winners by category are:

Pre-K - 2nd grade - Dillon Brouse, first grade, first place; Braidon McCarley, kindergarten, second place; and Artur Kucharewicz, second grade, third place.

3rd - 5th - Joseph Beard, fifth grade, first place;

Alayna Brown, third grade, second place; and Brooklyn Stewart, fourth grade, third place.

6th - 8th - Abbigale Rowe, seventh grade home school, first place.

Adult - Lynda Foster, 19, first place.

“Thanks to the Pea Ridge art teachers for assisting the Optimist Club with judging,” said Sandy Lasater, Optimist Club secretary and chairman of the art contest committee. “It’s great to see the effort by young people, I hope to see more in the future.”

All artists who entered will receive a coupon for an ice cream cone from Blackhawk Grill thanks to owners Joe and Tina Bangs.
