FFA officers attend retreat

— The Pea Ridge FFA officer team headed off to their annual Officer Retreat Wednesday, June 2, on the Elk River. They spent four and a half hours canoeing, stopping along to river to cast out a line or cool off in the water.

After canoeing, the officers and Mr. Perry Mason, teacher, loaded back on the bus and went to Roaring River where they stayed in cabins. Wednesday night they began working on the Program of Activities (POAs), which is one of the main purposes of the Officer retreat. They discussed all the committees and what each committee will do in the upcoming school year.

Trout fishing was the first item of the agenda on Thursday. Not much luck was shown in the morning with only two fish caught.

After lunch, the officers and Mr. Mason went back out and together caught nine fish. After a satisfying dinner, trout and fried potatoes, the officers finished up the POAs. They came up with many great ideas to accomplish in the 2010-2011 school year to help improve the community, school and the FFA program.

The next morning the team packed up and left Roaring River to go to the Bass Pro Shop in Springfield for a little fun and shopping. Afterwards they went to Lamberts, the home of thrown rolls, for lunch. The group arrived back in Pea Ridge at 3 p.m.

The trip was a great start to the 2010-2011 FFA Chapter. Those attending included Chase Thetford, Brandi Galvan, Wes Harper, Madison Rizley, Billy Hern, Johnny Simpkins, Katlin Patton and Auti Galvan.

The chaperones were Mrs. LaRay Thetford and Mrs. Mason.
