New Meadowbrook EH Club

President Ione Kauffeld opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Rheta Van Doren gave devotions with a reading from Ephesians 5:11-20.

She also read a passage about being thankful. She gave a Mothers’ Day reading and a Fisherman’s prayer, all dealing with being thankful.

Karen Launderville will give devotions in July.

Roll call was answered by nine members telling what they could not do without in their kitchens.

The minutes were approved as read. Van Doren gave the treasurer’s report.

Kauffeld reported that the school is finished for the year. There will be a new person in charge of the volunteers next year.

The next cultural arts workshop will be June 17.

Uncompleted projects will be finished.

“Happy Birthday” was sung to Betty Phillips, who received a gift.

Kauffeld reported that in dealing with attackers, a can of wasp spray is better than pepper spray because it shoots further. Aiming at their eyes and temporarily blinding them gives time to call 911 or run away before the attacker can react.

Work day is planned for June 24 to work on the fair booth, if that works for Selena.

Food was collected for God’s Pantry; Mary Ann Bergen will deliver it to the pantry.

The meeting was adjourned with the Extension Homemakers creed.

Pea Ridge Historical Society

The Pea Ridge Historical Society met at the museum on May 25, 2010.

Meeting was opened at 6 p.m. by Gus Bradley who gave the treasurer’s report with a balance of $1,757.23.

Greg Mayfield, the speaker, explained he had been a Unit Historian on his tour to Iraq, been a police officer in Springdale for many years and was now a stay-at-home dad for his two sons. The son of James Mayfield of Rogers, Greg is grandson of Pierce Mayfield and great-grandson of Clem Mayfield. He gave a presentation on the Mayfield family. Therewere photos of Mayfield families and their homes in the Pea Ridge area. The name Mayfield is English.

They migrated from Europe to the U.S. The first U.S. record Greg has is of Robert Mayfield, who was probably an indentured servant, and whose will was probated in 1715.

This was an interesting program and members look forward to additional segments in the future.

The next meeting is at6 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, at the museum, 1451 N.
