Mrs. Catherine Wallace was hired at first as a Pea Ridge Schools faculty member, but was to be employed at the school as the new librarian. Wallace received her BSE degree from the University of Arkansas. She was to replace Mrs. Dorine Williams, who resigned.

A fire, believed to be ignited by lightning, destroyed a barn containing hay on Stanley Buttry’s property. Buttry told responding fire-fighters the barn appeared to explode into flames during an electrical storm.

Only four high school students achieved perfect straight As in the spring 1980 semester - juniors Natalie Hardin and Vicki Parish and sophomores Eugene Weston and Carla Yockey.

Billy Sisco, founder of Pea Ridge’s Sisco Funeral Home, was featured and pictured on the front page under the headline “Mr. Incredible.”

In a letter to the editor,Blake Hoover, Pea Ridge Little League’s umpirein-chief, assured the mothers of little leaguers that the umpires were not in the practice of taking bribes from the coaches.

Pea Ridge Police Chief Sam Holcomb asked the state Highway Department for another traffic survey at the intersections of Arkansas Highways 72 and 94 in Pea Ridge. He said sometimes between the hours of 3 and 5 p.m. cars have to wait 15 minutes to cross the intersection.

The six-member committee working on a PeaRidge annexation could not reach a consensus about the area they hoped to annex into the city. The current proposal on the table amounted to 640 acres along Ark.

Hwy. 72 west to County Road 808.

Hope Hardin, Russell Bray and Cindy Johnson were pictured receiving awards for performance in agriculture or home economics at Pea Ridge High School.

Dave Montgomery announced the new location of his grocery store would be open for business Wednesday.

The 21, 300-square-footbuilding holds 2,000 to 2,500 new items and an enlarged deli and bakery.

Winners of the VAS coloring contest at Garfield Elementary were pictured with their artwork. They were Ivy Waldon, Morgan Seamster, Haley Galyen, Morgan Bradley, Ashton Tate, Randy Stevens and Desi Rhodes.

Haley Bone, Jade Irwin, Nina Pinto and Paul Baker competed at the Rogers area Meet for the Arkansas Parks and Recreation State Youth Track Championships. The TrackHawks also competed at the state meet in Little Rock.
