— Fun activities for children home from school could be inexpesively made at home.

Fingerpaint

From Mrs. David Miser Country Classics, Battlefield 4-H Club

1 1/2 c. laundry starch

1 qt. boiling water

1 1/4 c. soap flakes

Poster paint

Mix starch with cold water to form paste. Add boiling water. Cook until clear, stirring constantly. Cool a bit, stirring well. Pour into eight jars with lids. Put poster paint into each jar.

Grease Paint From Kimberly Keene

4 tsp. shortening

10 tsp. cornstarch

1 tsp. petroleum jelly

food coloring

cold cream

Mix the first three ingredients in a dish. This is white grease paint. Set aside half of the white grease paint. Divide the rest into three equal parts. Put each part in a separate dish, mix a different food coloring into each part. Lightly spread cold cream or shortening on your face. Wipe off any extra, use your fingertips to spread white grease paint over the entire face.

Use a paint brush to apply colored paint. Take off with tissue and baby oil.

Cooked flour play dough

3 c. flour

1 1/2 c. salt

6 tsp. cream of tarter

3 Tbsp. oil

3 c. water

Pour all ingredients into a large pot and stir constantly over medium heat until a ball forms. Knead the play dough until the texture matches conventional play dough (1-2 minutes). Add food coloring for colored play dough.

Store in plastic container. Should last for at least 3 months.
