Pea Ridge City Council meeting rescheduled

Councilman Bob Cottingham was the only member in attendance at the Pea Ridge City Council meeting Tuesday, July 20. Due to lack of a quorum, the meeting was canceled.

The meeting is rescheduled for 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, at City Hall.

Items on the agenda include: the bid for the painting the interior of the water tower; Greer Street improvements, the Pea Ridge Fire Department, Parks Commission, the library, Benton County Solid Waste funding and fleet and property insurance.

Planning Commission

The Pea Ridge Planning Commission meeting is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, at City Hall.

Items on the agenda include:

◊Home occupation at 2053 Patterson Rd., Rachel Patton;

and

◊A landscape ordinance;

and

◊Adoption of an energy code.

Bids opened

Bids for painting the interior of the hydro-pillar water tower behind the Emergency Services Building were opened Friday. The bids will be examined by the engineer for the water department and then presented to the City Council for selection. Bids were for $73,777 from Leher Painting, Mayflower, Ark.;

$65,500 from Protective Linings and Coatings, Alexander, Ark.; and $79,000 from Utility Service Company Inc., Perry,Ga.

In addition to painting the interior, Ken Hayes, water superintendent, said he intends to add cathodic protection by Cor-Pro Protection of Houston, Texas. Cathodic protection is a technique to control the corrosion of a metal surface by making it work as a cathode of an electrochemical cell.

Burn pile open to public

The burn pile at the Pea Ridge Fire Station located across from Givens Subdivision on Arkansas Highway 94 is open to the public.

Limbs only may be dropped off at the site.

Pea Ridge National Military Park

Pea Ridge National Military Park is again open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Sunday.

Superintendent John Scott said the park tour road was previously open to the public for hiking and bicycling prior to and after those hours.

“I am sorry that we will no longer be able to accommodate hikers and bikers during these times, but we currently do not have the funding to provide staff outside of our regular operational hours,” Scott said in a news release.

The main park gate will close daily after 5 p.m. Visitors are reminded that when this gate is closed, the park is closed to all uses. Parking along U.S. 62 and entering the park to hike or bike is prohibited.

Civil War Commission

The Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, at the Pea Ridge Community Center.

The commission will reconvene at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 29, in the Latta Barn at Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park at 506 E. Douglas in Prairie Grove.
