Flags fly on holidays thanks to Optimists

Flags flying in neighborhoods around town are erected by members of the Pea Ridge Optimist Club. Members Bill and Faye Ryan, brothers, placed this flag in Standing Oaks subdivision recently.

— The Pea Ridge Optimist Club invites the community to participate in its flag project.

For an annual contribution of $30, the Optimist Club will place a three-foot by five-foot American flag on a 10-foot metal pole at the curb of your residence or business oneach of seven days of the year, including Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Patriot’s Day, Columbus Day and Veteran’s Day.

The flag will sit in a sleeve installed 15 inches from the curb, edge of the road or the mailbox.

Contributions support the community service projects for youth in the community such as college scholarships, essay contests, oratorical contests and various Optimist projects and programs.

For more information or to support the Optimist Club, call Merrill White, Optimist Club president, at 586-8406.
