’Til Next Time | Tractor in parade revives memories

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

I was driving the bottom road past the golf course because I had called the mayor and complained about the road. I knew some work had been done. It’s good!

The mayor and his wife and Stanley and Dorothy Williams were looking good in the parade. That was really a fine parade for a small town, midsummer, no marching band but some floats, old cars, horses and I especially enjoyed the antique JohnDeeres. One driver was trying to get the stick shift in the right gear. I was working at it harder than he was because I’ve done the same thing. There’s a certain rhythm needed to do the clutch and all of it in time with the fly wheel. For awhile, there I was 12 yearsold again and on my way to the hay field on a John Deere tractor.

As I was driving along I decided to drive up to the Grimes Cemetery. There were no artificial flowers or live ones or even flags on military graves. It’s a dead cemetery. Thank goodness someone from the golf course made a couple passes through it with a brush hog.

Charlotte Jones’ mother was with her at church Sunday. Joanne Wilkerson’sfamily filled an entire row. It was so good to see the girls but people were crowded around, I only got to wave. The girls are Marilyn, Martha and Marsha.

Bible School starts this week and Brightwater will be going into Pea Ridge again.
