’Til Next Time Codling Corner named for a family

I met up with Elaine Codling (I don’t have her married name). She tells me that Bill is 89 and is still active, drives and goes to Senior Center activities about every day. Carmen and John have grown children and Elaine is a grandma. Bill and Betty are the reason that the intersection of Highways 62 and 72 is still known as Codling Corner to the locals.

Diane Sawyer told us on the World News that an amazing amount of us are reaching the age of 100 and in reasonably good health.

One of my magazines had a list of 10 foods good for you and a list of 10 bad ones. I could choke down a couple of the good foods but wouldn’t you know I love every item on the bad food list. Pizza, cheeseburgers, French fries - these are things I crave sometimes and I’ll admit I eat them, probably too often.

I laughed out loud about two things this week. One was my little dog turning flips under the garden hose. The other was a rooster chasing a hen when she made a right angle turn.

I swear he spun his little claws trying to turn but she made it under the pickup.

Something I gasped about was a baby deer, only a few days old, frantically crossing six lanes at the intersection of Highway 102 and Eighth Street. Several cars were able to avoid him but he was crazy with fear.

I scanned the roadside for his mama, but nothing. Who knows if they’ll ever rejoin.

Nature is cruel sometimes.

Green fried tomatoes are on the menu this week and I bet they would be on thebad food list.

Yes, one of the boys went to Nebraska and was tickled pink to go. The other one had commitments but thinks it’ll be a vacation for him to have little brother gone.

Looking down Curtis Avenue at all the flags made my heart sing on Fourth of July weekend.

Brightwater Church welcomed the Rev. Brian Timmons and family Sunday morning. We’re looking forward to getting to know them.
