Store evacuated; bomb threat debunked

— Customers and employees were quickly evacuated from Marvin’s IGA Friday night after the manager on duty received a telephone call from someone claiming there was a bomb and a gunman in the store. The caller demanded money.

The manager reported the call to the store manager, who was not on duty at the time, and the manager called 911. Central Communications dispatched area law enforcement agencies to back up Pea Ridge police.

Pea Ridge police, fire and ambulance personnel quickly responded to thescene. Law enforcement officers from Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Little Flock and other area agencies also responded to the scene.

Officers did not find a bomb or gunman during a search of the premises.

“We are very grateful for the assistance of all the agencies which respondedin a timely manner and were willing to help,” Police Chief Tim Ledbetter said, adding that the employees and customers of the grocery store were cooperative and patient during the investigation.

The incident is still under investigation.
