Homemakers Club

President Ione Kauffeld called the meeting to order with the bell that was presented to the club at the Fall Council meeting for the volunteer hours of 2009. The Pledge of Allegiance to the flag followed.

Eleven members answered the roll call by telling where they store and how they dispose of their medicines.

Club members introduced themselves to Curtistine Woods, who was warmly welcomed back.

Selena Williams gave the devotions based on her favorite Bible verse found in Galatians 5:22, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.” She told how she chose to base her life on these principles and when she falls short of achieving them, she relies on God’s grace to forgive her.

February devotions are to be given by Jean Landauer.

Rheta Van Doren gave the treasurer’s report.

Roxie Geddie reported thatthe annual meeting of VAS Ambulance Service was to be held Jan. 16 in Avoca. New officers were elected.

NEBCO is having a spaghetti dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. on Jan.

29 at the community building in Garfield, with proceeds to go to completing Station Number Two, Posy Mountain Road.

The holiday program at the Garfield Elementary School in December was very well done and well attended.

Club workday will be at 10 a.m. Jan. 27. Club members are asked to bring a sack lunch.

There is one quilt to be layered and additional quilt squares are needed.

Fall Council was in Cave Springs in December at the Church of Christ. New Meadowbrook members attending were Ione Kauffeld, Karen Launderville, Rheta Van Doren and Jean Landauer. The club was awarded a certificate for volunteer hours as well as the bell, and Roxie Geddie received a certificate for perfect attendance in 2009.

It was reported that God’s Pantry in Garfield will be openon Thursdays. A note from the pantry was read thanking the members for the gift of canned goods collected in November and December.

Selena is celebrating her birthday on Jan. 15, received a gift and the club members sang to her.

Karen Launderville gaveeach club member a copy of the “Fit in ’10” program from the county Extension Office.

She also told club members of the benefits of using honey and cinnamon to promote healthy lives.

The meeting was adjourned with the recitation of the Extension Homemakers Pledge.
