— Stop Smoking Seminar

Due to weather, the Stop Smoking Breathe Free class at the Total Life Community Center south of Gentry on Arkansas Highway 59 has been rescheduled for 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan.

Gentry City Council

The Gentry City Council holds regular meetings in the city court room at 6:30 p.m., the first Monday of each month. The Gentry Planning and Zoning Commission meets in city hall at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

Gentry School Board

The Gentry School Board holds regular meetings at 7 p.m.

on the third Monday of each month in the school district board room.

Springtown Council

The Springtown Council meets at 6 p.m., on the second Tuesday of each month, in the new community building.

Town of Highfill

Highfill’s next council meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 11, at the Highfill Community Building. The planning commission meeting is at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan.

Chamber Awards

Gentry Chamber of Commerce is currently taking nominations for the 2009 community awards. The honors, along with the Lifetime Achievement Awards, will be presented at the Gentry Community Awards Night on Feb. 25 at the Wooden Spoon Restaurant in Gentry. Nominations are now being accepted for Organization of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Pioneer of the Year, Citizen of the Year and Business Person of the Year. Send nominations, with the reasons for nomination to P.O. Box 642, Gentry, AR 72734 or e-mail them to info @ gentrychamber .com. The deadline for nominations is Feb. 5.

Spaghetti Supper

A spaghetti supper is planned for 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Jan.

16, at the Siloam Springs Armory, 1333 East Main Street. The supper is in support of local troops and their families. The spaghetti dinner also includes green beans, bread, drink and a dessert. The cost is $5 per person. Dinners may be eat-in or carry-out.

Recycling Services Available

Western Recycling invites area residents and businesses to take advantage of its 24-7 drop-off location on Dawn Hill Road, just west of the Flint Creek Cemetery. Recyclables can also be dropped in one of the many recycling containers around the community. Western Recycling takes newspapers, shredded paper, paper, junk mail, cardboard, plastic bottles, plastic bags (including store bags) aluminum, iron and tin. GHS Band Boosters

The Gentry High School Band Boosters meet at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month in the high school band room.

VFW Meetings

The Gentry/Decatur VFW Post meets on the first Tuesday of each month - at 7 p.m. during the winter months. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is 3 miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road, and the first building on the right.

Gentry Senior Activity Center

Gentry Senior Activity Center, at 121 East Main Street (just east of the Gentry Public Library) is open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Meals and rides to the center and activities are available Monday through Friday by calling Jackie Bader, the center’s manager, at 736-0378. Van routes are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday - Gentry, Highfill and Springtown; and Tuesday and Friday - Gentry and Decatur.
