— Peggy Louise Bishop

FAYETTEVILLE — Peggy Louise Bishop, 84, died Jan. 1, 2010, at her home in Fayetteville surrounded by her family. She was born on Oct. 23, 1925, in Avoca, to Clead Ferrow and Margaret Rebecca Clymer Miller.

After graduating from Rogers High School, she attended the University of Arkansas.

Bishop was a female pioneer in the home building industry of northwest Arkansas. She led the way for other women to enter that profession. She not only was a home contractor, but also developed many housing subdivisions. She built her first home in 1951. She built hundreds of high quality custom homes under the name of Charm Homes.

She married Wade Bishop in 1965 and they began their business and personal relationship that lasted 37 years, until his death. After her husband’s death, Bishop built her final home in Yorktowne Square, one of many subdivisions that she and Wade developed over the years. She then retired and lived her final years in that home, until her death.

She took pleasure in playing bridge, attending church and participating in many activities such as garden club, a birthday group and investment club. She loved to entertain in her home and hosted many gatherings.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Alfred Wade Bishop; her parents, Clead and Margaret Miller; her sister, Marilyn Alice Miller; and her son, James Clead Ragland.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Carol Hansen and her husband, John, and their two sons, William James Hansen and Matthew Joel Hansen, all of Fayetteville; one son, John Wayne Ragland and his wife, Sheryl, and their son Jackson Wayne Ragland all of DeSoto, Kan.; John’s daughter, Sunny Lynn Taylor of Gilbert, Ariz., and John’s son, Jason Wayne Ragland of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one stepdaughter, Patricia Fox, and her husband, Kenny, and their son Joey of Manzanita, Ore.; and five greatgrandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. J. Anthony Holifield officiating.

Burial will be at Buttrum’s Cemetery, Pea Ridge.

Arlo Evans

SPRINGDALE — Arlo Evans, 37, of Springdale, Ark., died Dec. 28, in Springdale. He was born Dec. 13, 1972, in Woodland, Calif., to Dodie Smothers Hunter and Johnny Warford.

He graduated from Springdale High School in 1991 and from the University of Arkansas with an associate’s degree in journalism. He was an assistant manager for Arkansas Collision Center in Springdale.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Euel Smothers.

Survivors include his parents, Jim and Dodie Hunter of Springdale; his sister, Michelle Hunter of Fayetteville; surrogate parents, including aunt Terri Niccum of Bentonville, aunt Jalee Smothers of Gulfport, Miss., and uncle and aunt Herb and Lori Evans of Fayetteville; his grandmother, Linda Tunnell of Rogers; great-grandmother, Frieda Tunnell of Rogers; aunt and uncle Ron and Nikki Corsey of Lowell; aunt, Robin Weatherbee of Garfield; uncle, Bill Hunter of Santa Maria, Calif.; and many cousins.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

John Hershberger

John Gale Hershberger, 87, of Bentonville, died Saturday, Dec. 26, at Bentonville Manor Nursing Home. He was born in Wichita, Kan., to Ralph Grass Hershberger and Opal Lorene Bacon.

He was a veteran of W.W.II serving in the Pacific Theater. He was owner and operator of Mid-States DeWalt Service in a sixstate area, repairing and selling tools for 25 years. He moved to this area 15 years ago from Houston, Texas, to make his home.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Garfield, and in 2001 repaired and gave back 1,000 Bibles. He was a member of the community impact committee and enjoyed quail, pheasant, rabbit, squirrel hunting and target practicing.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Darold Lee Hershberger, Ralph Graham Hershberger, Roy Hershberger; and one sister, Helen Mc-Clintock.

Survivors include his wife, Lilyan Hershberger of the home; a daughter, Connie Snodgrass of Rogers; a son, Larry Hershberger of Wichita, Kan.; one brother, Harold Franklin Hershberger of Longview, Texas; and three grandchildren.

A private burial was held Monday, Dec. 28, at Ruddick Cemetery under the direction of Sisco Funeral Home of Pea Ridge.

A military honors service will be held at a later date.

Goldie Oskey

ROGERS — Goldie Oskey, 85, of Rogers, died Jan. 2, 2010, in Springdale. She was born June 27, 1924, in Kingston, to the late Joel and Lula Moore.

She retired from the Rogers Walmart Store where she worked in the shoe department. She enjoyed sewing and was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Rogers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and daughter, Debbie Noeltner.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Elmer A. Oskey; one son, Lee Oskey and wife, Joan, of Pea Ridge; six grandchildren, David Oskey and wife, Becky, of Peach Tree City, Ga., Chris Oskey and wife, Lisa, of Fayetteville, Judy Fenton and husband, Steve, of Bentonville, Stacey Gobble of Bentonville, Emily Tyler and husband, John, of Rogers and Colton Noeltner of Rogers; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, at Rollins Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian burial is set for 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Rogers.

Interment will follow at St. Vincent Cemetery.
