Recipe of the Week - Laura Bush’s Hot Cocoa

Laura Bush’s Hot Cocoa

6 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder

6 Tbsp. sugar

pinch of salt

2 1/2 c. milk

2 1/2 c. half and half

1/2 tsp. vanilla

pinch of cinnamon

Mix dry ingredients in a three-quart pan. Pour in milk and whisk smooth. Heat to dissolve, about five minutes. Stir in half and half, vanilla and cinnamon.

Heat but don’t boil, whisking for seven to 10 minutes. Pour into six mugs.

Top with whipped cream and a little finely grated orange rind. Sprinkle with a little cocoa.

One Cup Hot Cocoa

1 Tbsp. cocoa

2 bsp. sugar

1 Tbsp. milk

1 c. milk

Mix cocoa and sugar in a mug. Add one tablespoon of the milk to make a paste. Heat remaining milk (but don’t boil) and add to mug. Stir well.
