Jr. Quiz Bowl hosts tourney

— The Pea Ridge Junior High Quiz Bowl Team hosted the American Quiz Bowl Association Regional tournament on Saturday, Feb. 6, at Pea Ridge High School. The local team came in fourth in the AGQBA Regional Tournament. They will go on to compete in the state tournament on Feb. 27, according to coach Connie Grau.

The students on the team include: ninth-graders Zach Lee, Jessica Wheatley and Liz Ward and seventh-graders Disney Humphrey, Josh Estesand Mark Wilson. Ivy Burnette, also a seventhgrader, was absent.

The Pea Ridge Optimist Club helped with a fundraiser to help the team with expenses to attend the AGQBA Tournament in Dover Feb. 27. The team also thanks the Optimist Club for paying for new shirts for both the junior and senior high teams.

The first place team in Saturday’s tournament was Farmington, second place was Huntsville and third place was Berryville. All four teams will attend the state tournament.

In the morning rounds, seven teams - Dover, Berryville, Gravette, Huntsville, Farmington, Pea Ridge and Dardanelle - played three games for placement in the afternoon. The afternoon seeding was Huntsville, first; Farmington, second; Berryville, third; Pea Ridge, fourth; Dover, fifth;

Gravette, sixth; and Dardanelle, seventh.

After the first afternoon game, Dardanelle, Dover and Gravette were eliminated, and the other four teams played for the top four positions.
