Wednesday, February 10, 2010

— What is your job title? Head football coach.

What does that entail? I am in charge of the football program here at Pea Ridge, grades seven through 12. It’s year round, regular season and off season.

Where are you from? I was born in Oakland, Calif., but grew up in Booneville, Ark.

Where did you go to college? I graduated from the University of Arkansas.

What is your degree? I have a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and a masters in the art of teaching.

What was your first job ever? I worked at a meat packing plant in Booneville as a summer job.

What was your first job out of college?

Teaching and coaching at Ramay Junior High in Fayetteville for five years. Then I was at Fayetteville High School for three years.

How long have you been in Pea Ridge? This is my first year, so six months.

How is Pea Ridge different than Fayetteville? Well, obviously the size, there is a lot less people, not just in the school but in the town. I like the feel of knowing people more. It’s easier to build relationships.

What is a memorable moment you have had coaching here so far? This year the win against Greenland. And the last game against Berryville, it was nice to see the seniors go out with a win.

What is the most challenging thing about coaching kids this age? The mentality of a lot of kids these days with video games, computers and TV. It’s hard to get them away and keep them focused on physical activity. And always one of the hardest things is trying to treat everyone fairly.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

I like to golf, I don’t get to as much now. I enjoy duck hunting, that’s a Christmas break event. I have a wife, Shannon, we’ve been married six years this summer, and a son Jake, he’ll be 4 in April. I also collect sports memorabilia.

College or pro football? I watch any kind of football, I like to watch high school football, too.
