In a special session, the Pea Ridge School Board voted to join other school districts of the county in petitioning the Benton County Court to employ professional appraisers to appraise all Benton County property.

Pea Ridge High School seniors Cathy Mitchell, Jim Arnold and Mark Lasater were named to the Pea Ridge High School honor roll for the second nine weeks.

A left window in a Pea Ridge school bus was shot completely out in Springdale as the bus, driven by coach Bill Lookadoo, was returning local basketball players from the tournament in West Fork. No injuries were reported.

An incident resulting from a routine traffic check Friday night, resulted in the shooting of suspect Steve Foster, 30, by patrolman Billy Peters, as Foster was attempting to leave the scene in the police car.

A recent snow fall in Pea Ridge yielded eight to 12 inches of fresh white snow throughout Pea Ridge country. Kids spent the day sledding because school was canceled.

As an English project, Freddy Yochum submitted a letter to the editor expressing his thoughts on the Iranian crisis. He stated he thought the president should send the armed forces to Iran and get the hostages out.

Residents of Seligman, Mo., were able to enjoy the benefits of a new post office, which officially opened that week. The 1,200-square-foot post office opened after 13 months of planning, building and inspection.

Pea Ridge High School Colors Day queen was Angie Paulsen with King Mark Davis, ball bearer Kinny Miller and crown bearer Ashley Adams.

Pea Ridge schools superintendent Marvin Higginbottom said he was “willing to take the lumps and go on,” referring to the loss of accreditation for the elementary school by not reducing the number of students in kindergarten classes that year. The school was put on probation for violating the teacher-student ratio of 20-1.

The Pea Ridge Blackhawks bid their home court of the past 26 years farewell with a win over Greenland.

The Blackhawks were expected to spend the next season at the new high school in the state-of-theart gymnasium.

Pea Ridge Community Library began offering Internet access during operating hours. The newlibrarian, Jennifer Hook, said computer use would be limited to one hour if demand became too great.

The library purchased a color printer for researchers, printouts were 15 cents per page.

The 2000 Colors Day court included queen Mary Bell, her court and their escorts: Ericha Nichols, Josh Carney, Sara Whitted, Jonathan Woodward, Kari Fletcher, Scott Spivey, Salinda Todd, Jesse Pride, attendant Marcus Villines, Bell, Anthony Mader, attendant Taylor Sherman, Priscilla Putzier, Jared Jennings, Amanda Johnson, Allen Shepherd, Larissa Palmore, Shane Wagner, Ashley Glass and Daniel Stewart.
