Activity center considered

— Looking at an entirely new concept in buildings, Pea Ridge School Board members will hear a presentation on a fabriccovered building from James W. Oldham, president of CIG, Inc., from Springdale, for an activity center at the board meeting Monday night.

“Some of the coaches have an idea for something more than just a football locker room,”school superintendent Mike Van Dyke said. “It’s more like an activity center.

“It’s a new concept ... very high tech type of fabric, very durable and made to withstand the pressures of the weather,” he said, adding that the new design is much less expensive than conventional construction.

CIG Inc. is the sole provider of this type of building in Arkansas, Van Dyke said, adding that there is similar building in Farmington.

Van Dyke will also present a plan to reduce the number of non-certified instructional assistants for the 2010-2011 school year.

Other items on the agenda for the 6 p.m. Monday School Board meeting include:

◊ Consent agenda, which includes: financial reports for operating, maintenance, transportation and food service; and the minutes of January board meeting and special board meeting;

◊ Transportation proposal for 2010-2011;

◊ Personnel - resignations and hiring; and consideration of the principals’ and curriculum director’s contracts;

◊ Primary School update; and

◊ Principals’ reports.
