Smoke detectors given away

— Smoke detectors can save lives, Fire Chief Frank Rizzio said.

The Pea Ridge Volunteer Fire Department purchased 400 smoke detectors for area residents thanks to a $1,500 donation from the Walton Family Foundation. The smoke detectors are free to city residents.

“Smoke detectors can save your life and that of your family.

We’ve had some real tragic situations in our district, where people did not have working smoke detectors,” Rizzio said. “For the simple price of a smoke detector and a battery a couple of times a year, it can save your life.”

Another donation of $1,000 from a Wal-Mart warehouse was used to buy a hazardous gas detector.

For information about getting a smoke detector, call the fire department at 451-1111 and leave a message.
