Pea Ridge boxer Bobby Oxford competed in a boxing match in Springfield, Mo., thanks to his coach Don Strickland, coach for the Rogers Boxing Club of amateurs.

Pea Ridge School District voters were asked to approve a five-mil increase in taxes at the March 9 school election.

The board approved a new policy for women teachers, employees and students which would allow them to wear slacks, slack suits, pants dresses and pants suits, excepting shorts and jeans, to school from Nov. 1 to April 1 of each year.

Meat and other foodproducts totaling over $600 were taken from Wanda’s Restaurant on U.S. Hwy. 62 just east of the Pea Ridge National Military Park Dec. 16, according to a report at the Benton County Sheriff’s office.

On Dec. 21, during the afternoon after church, burglars broke into the residence of Ross Nichols, Avoca, and stole the morning’s offering of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Nichols, the treasurer of the church, had left the approximately $200 on a table at home.

Blackhawk basketball players won the 1980 district champs and coach Jim Roe was designated as coach of the year for the 1A West conference for the second straight year.

Police Chief Sam Holcomb vowed to crack down on speeding through town.

He said there are now three patrolmen in town.

The Pea Ridge City Council filled several vacancies including: Norm Abrams to City Council;

Richard Hardwicke, prosecutor, and Vondeleete Summey and Gwen Hokeah to the Library Board.

Four people were arrested for theft of copper wire from a Contel storage area in town. The men, ranging in age from 17-19 were caught following a stakeout by patrolmen.

The Pea Ridge City Council annexed land in the Big Sugar Golf Development south of town in its meeting this week. Big Sugar Golf Club covers more than 400 acres south of town and will feature an 18-hold golf course, club house and approximately 600 single-family dwellings.

The Pea Ridge High School Robotics team placed ninth in the national competition held Nov. 16-19 on the Texas A&M campus.
