Fourth-grade students give to others

— The fourth-grade students at Pea Ridge Intermediate School were involved in helping their community through a variety of activities this school year. With the help of Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby, parents, teachers and students, 40 colorful, handmade blankets were given to the residents at Autumn Place Retirement Village for Christmas.

Wal-Mart generously gave the fourth-grade team a grant of $500 to purchase material to make blankets.

Eighty pieces of fleece were purchased from Hobby Lobby, which gave the students 50 percent off the cost. Parents and teachers met two times, working several hours, to cut ties on all sides of the blankets to prepare them for the students to tie together. A morning was then set aside for all the fourth-grade students to come together and tie two colors of fleece together to form a beautiful warm blanket for the residents at Autumn Place in Pea Ridge.

On Friday, Dec. 3, the fourth-grade class took a trip to Autumn Place to sing Christmas carols and hand out the blankets they had made for the 40 residents who reside there.

It was exciting to see the smiles on their faces as the children sang and visited with the residents. What a wonderful lesson it was for the fourth-graders to spread some Christmas cheer in the community!
