— Halloween Nightmare BY COURTNEY FORD, Fifth place

Trick-or-treators everywhere

Dressed in costumes from head to toe

Here they are haunting the night

They pull pranks and beg for your candy

Stalking them as they depart

With your candy in their little bags

Examining their frightful costumes

Just some kids in some clothes, or is it

Maybe they’re really demonic creatures

Maybe they will engulf your warm red blood

Maybe they will cast some enchantments

Maybe they will abduct that final breath of yours

You are convinced that theyaren’t

But deep down you really know the truth

Deep down you’re rattling with horror

Like a little girl in the lightless twilight

You hear a piercing scream from an unknown source

A moment later you realize that shriek came from within you

Your instincts are summoned and you start to race away

But why aren’t you propelling forward

You distinguish a mysterious being

He’s imprisoning you in his disfigured arms

Then you see his gang of freaks

They are definitely NOT human

Then you see the razor sharp teeth

then wands too ancient to be seen today

A wolf turns into a young beautiful girl

Next your ears pick up some unclear whispers

You feel your blood being drained

It feels like a snake biting you and injecting its poison

It’s hard to interpret the feeling

Then you seem to have disappeared

You are not anything

Flashes of your past come n go

Then you’re floating in the empty darkness

You know that your existence is over.
