Five candidates vie for position

— Throwing his hat into the ring, Boyd McNiel has filed to run for mayor.

McNiel, 47, has been in Pea Ridge for 21 years. He is a native of Cassville, Mo., and has been an iron worker for 25 years, but is currently unemployed. He ran for, but was not elected, City Council during the last election.

“I see things I want to change. There are things I see need to be corrected or addressed. It seems like you come up with an idea and it’s rejected in an off-handededly manner without even being considered,” McNiel said, adding that he wants to see the city cleanup held a minimum of four times a year.

McNiel said he has been married to Charlotte McNiel for 11 years.

Mayor Jackie Crabtree is seeking re-election. Joe Hart and Rick Webb have also filed for the mayor’s seat.

The election is Nov. 2.
