Man arrested after fatal wreck

— A Garfield man is dead and a Bentonville man in jail after a two-vehicle accident Saturday on Arkansas 127.

Kyle Duncan Rogers, 39, of 8212 Houdan Way, Bentonville, was arrested in connection with felony negligent homicide and other misdemeanor charges, including driving while intoxicated, first offense.

According to an Arkansas State Police report, a vehicle driven by Rogers was northbound on Arkansas 127, negotiated a curve and left the roadway on the right side of the road.

Rogers’ vehicle then traveled back onto the highway and Rogers lost control ofthe vehicle, traveled over the centerline and struck a motorcycle driven by Jack Hefner, 63, of 20465 Arkansas 127, Garfield.

Both vehicles came to rest in the west ditch, police said.

Hefner was pronounced dead at the scene by the Benton County Coroner, according to police.

A passenger on the motorcycle, Helen M. Hefner, 60, also of 20465 Arkansas 127, Garfield, was flown to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Mo.

Rogers was also being held in the Benton County Jail in connection with misdemeanor seconddegree endangering the welfare of an incompetent person and reckless driving.
