City joining forces

— Shared work is always more fun. At least that’s the idea behind a city-wide garage sale being promoted by Gina Easterling and Courtney Hurst.

The two ladies are encouraging their neighbors to join them with garage sales from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11.

“It might be fun if the churches opened their parking lots for fund raising, too,” Easterling said.

Easterling, a stay-at-home mom with two small children, said she used to live in Neosho, Mo., where there is a city-wide yard sale every April.

“People come from all over and they had to close off streets because there was so much traffic,” she said. “We always knew if wehad to get rid of stuff or needed something, we could do it then.

“Since we’ve been living here for five years, we’ve been driving to Neosho, but thought it would be better to start one here.”

Easterling and a friend of hers, Courtney Hurst, a teacher and mother of one, have been making flyers, contacting the mayor, churches and businesses to promote the idea.

“This would get people to come to Pea Ridge. It’s just a really cool atmosphere,” Easterling said, adding that many special groups - Scouts, church groups, sports teams - used the time to hold fundraisers.

Easterling said she set up a Facebook page for people to learn more or ask questions. For more information, go to the Facebook page Pea Ridge City Wide Sale.
