CLUB NEWS

Bunker Hill Community Club

BUNKER HILL, Mo.

- The Bunker Hill Community Club will hold the monthly lunch on the square inside the old court house starting at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30. The menu for this month is lasagna served with salad, garlic bread, dessert and drink. Thanks to all who came last month.

The monthly singing will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept.

4. Bring a favorite finger food. If you like to sing or play an instrument, you are welcome to do so.

Train ride to Van Buren

SELIGMAN, Mo. - The Seligman to Van Buren train ride will be Saturday, Oct. 9. Ride to beautiful Van Buren and enjoy the Arts and Crafts days. The train will leave Seligman at 7 a.m. and arrive in Van Buren approximately 11 a.m.

It will depart Van Buren at 2 p.m. and arrive back in Seligman approximately 6:30 p.m.

First class tickets are $80 each, seniors are $72, Caboose tickets are $80 each, seniors $72, Vintage car tickets are $60 each, seniors $54. Children ages 4-12 $35, under 4 free.

Community dance slated

SELIGMAN, Mo.

Town hall meeting slated

GARFIELD - A town hall style meeting and meet and greet with U.S. Senate candidate Trevor Drown will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Garfield Community Center.

Granny’s Quilts of Love set fundraiser

The seventh annual Granny’s Quilts of Love auction and dinner fundraiser will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at Pea Ridge High School.

Dinner includes lasagna, salad, corn, roll, dessert and drink. The auction will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Dinner is $6 for adults, $2 children 12 and under. Proceeds go to buy materials to make quilts for the Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

Chicken in a bag held

GARFIELD - The “Chicken-in-a-Bag” fundraiser is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 28. It is sponsored by the Northeast Benton County Volunteer Fire/EMS Department.

NEBCO volunteers will grill chicken halves ready for pickup.

To pick up a “Chickenin-a-Bag,” drive through the NEBCO Community Center parking lot at 17823 Marshall St. (U.S. Highway 62), in Garfield. Chicken halves will be foil wrapped, bagged and ready for takeout at just $5 each.

Proceeds will be applied to the cost of the two recently purchased heart monitors on the NEBCO FIRE-EMS advanced lifesupport ambulances.

Gateway annual picnic

GATEWAY - Music will resound through Gateway Park Labor Day weekend at the annual Gateway Picnic set for 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4.

Southern Raised, a bluegrass family band out of Hurley, Mo., is scheduled to perform. The band includes sisters Lindsay on the upright bass, Sarah on the banjo and Emma Grace playing the fiddle and mandolin, and their brother Matthew flatpicking on the guitar. Bluegrass Music Profiles Magazine calls the band “spirited musicians who weave their instrumental talents in support of their heart-felt, bonewarming harmonies.”

Musical guest Katie Anderson, daughter of Sherry Dean, will also perform.

The picnic is open everyone in the area and surrounding areas; admission is free.

The picnic, sponsored by the city, will include hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad and baked beans. Residents may bring a potluck dessert if desired.

Bring your lawn chairs to enjoy the food and entertainment.

Labor Day country breakfast

GARFIELD - The Labor Day country breakfast fundraiser, sponsored by VAS Ambulance Service and the Northeast Benton County Fire/EMS Department, will be from 7 to 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 6, at the NEBCO Community Center in Garfield.

Breakfast will include homemade biscuits, gravy, pancakes, bacon, ham, sausage, hash browns, eggs, fruit cup and drinks.

Price is $7 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-12, children under 5 are free.

Proceeds from the event will go toward the operation of the newly established advanced life support ambulance service serving Avoca, Garfield and Gateway.

Ridge Rockers to hold open house

The Pea Ridge Ridge Rockers will have an open house at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the Pea Ridge Elementary School cafeteria. There will be a free dinner and a short introduction to square dancing.

The public is invited and there is no age limit.

Pea Ridge cleanup

The 2010 annual fall cleanup will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 14-17, and from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18.

Dumpsters will be located at the city property behind Village Hardware.

Participants need to bring a form of identification and proof of city residency, such as a current paid water bill.

The city will not provide curbside pickup.

The following items will be accepted for disposal: furniture, stoves, dishwashers, bicycles, compressed gas cylinders, car batteries, fire extinguishers, washers and dryers, leaves and brush, air conditioners and refrigerators (if freon has been removed by certified technician), compressors, fluorescent bulbs, cleaners, paints, chemicals, oil, oil filters, tires (four per household), antifreeze, aerosols, flammable liquids and pesticides.

Household trash, construction material, anything containing freon or too large to fit in a dumpster will not be accepted.

There is a maximum of three trips per household, no exceptions.

Leaves and brush will be collected at the Fire Department substation on North Arkansas Highway 94 across from Givens Place subdivision.
