Roe attends conference

— U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mary Pryor and Representatives Marion Berry, Vic Snyder and Mike Ross notified the Arkansas Humanities Council that they will receive a grant of $97,620 to support the annual statewide Arkansas History Day and to support the council’s efforts to preserve and document the African American cemeteries throughout the state. The funds were allocated through the We the People grant program.

Wanda Roe, local member of the council, recently attended the summer meeting held at Hot Springs.

The business meetings were conducted at the Garvan Gardens Conference Center.

The Hot Springs Historical Society presented a program and a local volunteer told the history of the Garvan Gardens. The group reviewed grant applications, elected officers and approved the budget for the coming year.

Former Pea Ridge resident Betty Davis and son, Cecil, were Roe’s guests for dinner.
