LETTERS TO THE EDITOR IN THE TIMES

Supports TLC ALS

To whom it may concern:

My name is Richard Hurd and the reason I am writing today is to voice my concern for the quality of service offered by the current emergency ambulance service in NE Benton County. I was raised in the Garfield/Gateway area, as were my parents, and I have lived here for the majority of my 77 years. I responded with the Volunteer Ambulance Service of Northeast Benton County for over 25 years, retiring in 2007 due to health problems. Because of my years of providing emergency medical care to the members of my community, I feel I have the necessary knowledge of how emergency patient care should be conducted.

I attended a Board of Directors meeting of the current Ambulance ServiceCorp. on Tuesday, April 13, and asked the members of that board why they are not utilizing an Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance service, Total Life Care EMS, Inc. (TLC), located in Gateway. This ALS service is equipped with medications, heart monitor, advanced airway management and higher trained personnel, just likethe ALS ambulance that is being sent from Rogers. By not calling for the closer ALS service, they are delaying advanced care for their patient by at least 10-15 minutes. I was informed by the members of the Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulance service board that they did not feel that the patient is being deprived of care in that instance, even though the patient was not getting the advanced care. I don’t think that answer is acceptable and hope that you feel the same.

Being a person with great concern for people, I feel that withholding or even delaying necessary advanced care is, in fact, depriving the patient of something that could possibly save their life. Because the people in the area pay a mandatory fee to fund the BLS ambulance service, that service needs to be reminded of the massive responsibility - morally, ethically and, possibly legally - that they have to provide their patients with the closest, higher level of care that is needed in an emergency situation.

Sincerely, RICHARD HURD Garfield, Ark.

Thomas Jefferson said, “Question with boldness even the existence of a God.” Scripture commands us to have an intellectual reason for our faith: “Always be ready to give a defense ... for the hope that is in you,” 1 Peter 3:15. “You shall love the lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind.”

Paul said, “attain all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God ... in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Col 2:2-3.

“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth,” 2 Timothy 2:15.

To help equip us understand, defend and share the Gospel, Focus On The Family developed “The Truth Project,” a DVDbased small-group study comprised of 12 one-hour lessons. This home-study is the starting point for looking at all areas of life from a Biblical perspective. It motivates us to be transformed by the renewing of our mind throughthe Holy Spirit.

There are presently 16 Truth Project groups in northwest Arkansas. I joined one, and feel that The Truth Project is the best course I’ve taken. Dr.

Dell Tackett’s teaching and illustrations are excellent, with many Eureka!-moments when we discover how one truth enhances another. Here’s a snippet from lesson one, “What is Truth.” We go to John 18 and find the arrested Jesus telling Pilate, “I came to bring truth to the world.

All who love the truth are my followers.” Pilate scoffs, “What is truth?”

We discover that Jesus said, “Truth, Truly” or “I tell you the truth” etc.

over 75 times in the New Testament: “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you had known Me, you wouldhave known My Father also,” John 14:6-7.

“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth,” John 17:17.

“This is what I have asked of God for you: that you will be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love, and that you will have the rich experience of knowing Christ with real certaintyand clear understanding.

For God’s secret plan, now at last made known, is Christ himself. In him lie hidden all the mighty, untapped treasures of wisdom and knowledge,” Col 2:2-3.

We learn that back in Eden, Satan caused us to question God’s word, “Has God indeed said?”

“Mankind exchanged the truth of the Creator for a lie,” Romans 1.

Jesus said, “You’re from your father, the Devil ... When the Liar speaks, he makes it up out of his lying nature and fills the world with lies ... Anyone on God’s side listens to God’s words,” John 8.

The Truth Project teaches us to defend the Truth of Scripture against the Lie of Evolution.

Many graduates start new groups. Check out www.thetruthproject.org to learn more. Call 531-1141 tojoin a group, or organize your own group, and we will bring the DVDs.
