’Til Next Time | Blessed in abundance by neighbors

Back about 1976 when the first boy went in the Marine Corps, my husband had an outside telephone ringer installed so he could hear it over in the shop (before cell phones). When my sons and grandsons rebuilt my house, they saw to it that the ringer was back up and also the driveway monitor. I would hate to be without either of them.

Kathy had me signed up on the “don’t call” list and either it has expired or political calls don’t count. I’m glad no one can hear the remarks when I hurry in from outside and have a political recording.

I let the little house dog out this morning. It was still dark and her two big buddies were still asleep up at their house. I went back out to see why she was whining and there stood a full grown deer, 10 feet away, directly under the yard light and her head down in my fencedin flower bed. She ate all four tomatoes that were from Webb’s feed store.

She wandered off into the dark. I’m all for wildlife, but seems to me like they are sure getting friendly. Now I have to put some wire over the top.

Last year I had three hanging tomato hangers that I carried water to all summer. My crop was decent but sure didn’t look like the advertisement. I just wasn’t happy with the flavor. They were raised in potting soil and tasted (to me) just like store-bought ones. I had some in plain dirt and they were the onesthat had that tomato whang that we wait all summer for. I’d love to hear what anyone else thinks about it, But mine will go in the ground - if deer will allow it!

I have wheels again - thanks to Richard Sears. I can’t say enough good about good friends! And I have an abundance of them!

I had an offer for a ride to Iowa this weekend, but it fell through. My sister is 83 and sister-in-law my age, but neither are able to make the trip anymore. I won’t let my daughter take time off a new job to take me, but sooner or later some vehicle will leave here for that directions and if it slows down, you can bet I’ll be in it. There are long weekends coming up!

My daughter-in-law goes that way to Wisconsin.

There are friends from Des Moines living in Fort Smith. If I don’t have asuitcase, my sister’s clothes will fit me and I can always buy the tooth brush, etc. So if you blink and I’m gone, be glad for me. Whether to Iowa or anywhere else for that matter!

Eighteen women attended the Sunshine Brunch Saturday morning. Flower centerpieces and bright yellow napkins set the mood inside while heavy rain came down outside.

Many of us gave thanks for the rain. We were beginning to need it.

Lloyd Jones replaced my tomato plants. Betty Weston bought me a rose bush. People are being good to me. I might get to expecting it.
