Running Lines | Beware of sunshine

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

Spring is in the air, definitely in the forecast.

Spring might be my favorite time of year, next to summer, fall and winter. But I’m not biased, I supposed every season has its perks.

Summer has camping and being on the water, fall has football and winter has snow sports. But spring has the first signs of warm sunshine and flip-flop tan lines, which should be enough to put anyone in a good mood.

It was that time for me a few weekends ago, the time to go by my annual new pair of Teva flip-flops with straps that criss-cross over the top of my feet. I anxiously wait through the winter to see what color my next pair will be. I’m like a kid at Christmas when it gets time to wear sandals. Be it not for snow on the ground and my obsessive need for running shoes, I would wear themall year just for the sheer happiness they bring me.

This year they are yellow.

Perfect, as bright yellow spring sunshine brings about a new sense of hope, rejuvenation and energy.

The winter blues are over.

Things that bogged us down over the winter can be let go and we can begin anew; let the petty and inconsequential matters slip off shoulders like removing a winter coat.

A driver headed east on Interstate 70 through the winding corridor near Idaho Springs, Colo., at just the right time early in the morning will come across one of those overhead electric warning signs that says “Beware of abundant sunshine.”

How perfect would the world be if we only need beware of abundant sunshine?
