Lady ’Hawks claim 6th in District Track

— Pea Ridge High School senior Erin Duvall placed in four events, adding points to spark the Lady ’Hawk track squad to a sixth place finish at the 4A-1 District meet last week in Gravette. Duvall scored 9 individual points and anchored the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays to score 11 more points. Pea Ridge had their highest team finish in recent memory.

The boys squad could only come up with 2 individual points and 6 relay points as they finished in the district cellar. Scott Fisher scored the boys’ 2 individual points with a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter dash as he clocked 11.71. Fisher was only 22-hundredths of a second behind the thirdplace finisher.

Shiloh easily won the boys’ championships with 181 points. With second place, Gravette had 134.

Finishing third was Gentry with 117, followed by Farmington, 99; Berryville, 42; Huntsville, 41; Prairie Grove, 38; and Pea Ridge, 8.

The champion Gravette girls also won easily, piling up 202 points to win comfortably over runner-up Berryville with 159. In third was Prairie Grove with 69,Huntsville, 67; Gentry, 55;

Pea Ridge, 32; Shiloh, 30;

and Farmington, 1.

The 6 points scored by the girls 4x400 meter relay was just enough to nudge Shiloh out of the sixthplace spot.

Duvall’s third-place finish in the 400-meter dash(67.41) was the highest award garnered by any Pea Ridge athlete on the day. Her sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (28.80) was the second best finish of any ’Hawk athlete. She was joined by Bailey Lessenberry, Felicia Walker and Destani Bellin the third-place 4x400 meter relay (4:52.3) and her 4x100 teammates in the fourth-place 4x100 relay (58.12) were Deborah Beard, Shantel Morgan and Emily Sweaza.

Three other Lady ’Hawks scored in the meet with Beard scoring the’Hawks’ first point with an eighth in the 100-meters in 13.78. Kim Cribbs scored twice, taking fourth in the 800-meters (2:46.5) and eighth in the 1600-meters (6:17.50). Megan Harris rounded out the scoring with a seventh place in the 3200-meter run (16:24.51).

The boys’ 4x100 team that finished fifth was composed of Fisher, Chase Thetford, Daniel Beard and Dakota Coan. The seventh-place 4x400 team (4:33.70) was composed of Coan, Bo Rylee, Tyler Norman and Caleb Killman.

Though not scoring, the ’Hawks’ best finisher in the 200 (25.77) was Coan who finished 14th.

Bo Rylee led the ’Hawks in the 400, taking 23rd in 61.92. In the 1600 (5:23.7) and 3200 (11:40.88) meter runs, Colton Holtgrewe had the hard luck of finishing ninth in both races.

In the 3200, he finished one hundredth of a second behind the eighth-place runner.

The ’Hawks were completely shut out in the field events in both boys and girls events and had no entrants in the hurdle events.

The meet was the final one for the local athletes as no one advanced on to the State 4-A Championships. It required a first or second place finish to advance to the state finals.
