Senior track ’Hawks compete at Gentry

— The varsity girls track team had their best showing of the year with a seventh place finish in the 16 team Pioneer Invitational at Gentry last week.

Kimberly Cribbs was the Lady ’Hawks’ top scorer by tallying 13 points, taking second in the 800 and 4th in the 1600. Her time in the 800 was 2:43.09 with her 1600 event clocking out at 6:23.3. The top scoring event for the ’Hawks was the fourth and fifth place finish by Megan Harris and Taylor Sherman in the 3200 meter run. Harris’ time was 17:10 with Sherman coming in at 17:30.

The top sprinter for Pea Ridge was Deborah Beard who placed fourth in the 100 in 13.42. Erin DuVal chipped in with some points by racing to fifth place in the 200 meters with an 28.72 effort. In addition, the 4x100 meter relay team composed of Beard, DuVal, Shantel Morgan and Cribbs was sixth in that event.

The Lady ’Hawks were shut out in the field events with no athlete making a jump or throw far enough to be marked.

Final standings in the girls’ division was: Berryville, 118; Gravette, 94;

Huntsville, 92; Green Forest, 70; Prairie Grove, 57;

Lincoln, 54; Pea Ridge, 41;

Gentry, 34; Siloam Springs, 33; Eureka Springs, 32; Elkins, 9; Decatur, 5; Mountainburg, 4; and Farmington, 3.

Two boy tracksters scored in the running events with Scott Fisher taking fourth in the 200 meters in 23.78 and Colton Holtgrewe placing twice, eighth in the 1600 in 5:21.43 and sixth in the 3200 in 13:09.3.

The relays scored with the 4x100 meter relay winning seventh in 50.44 with Woollard, Chase Thetford, Fisher and Dakota Coan running legs. The 4x400 meter relay of Coan, Bo Rylee, Killman and Roughton placed eighth in 4:10.5.

Like the Lady ’Hawks, the ’Hawks could get no points in the field events and wound up 14th in the 16 team affair.

The meet winner was Farmington, 137; Gravette, 161; Huntsville, 51; Elkins, 50; GreenForest, 49; Prairie Grove, 45; Siloam Springs, 43;

Berryville, 39; Gentry, 38; Mountainburg, 27;

Decatur, 25; Eureka Springs, 24; Lincoln, 18; Pea Ridge, 12;

and Lead Hill, 2.

The senior high seasoncomes to a close this Friday for most athletes at the 4A-1 District Championships at Gravette. Onlythe top two finishers at district may advance on to the state meet later in May.
