— Anna Morgan did something no Pea Ridge athlete has done in several years, and that was to claim an individual title in a district championship event. Seventh-grader Morgan’s well-paced 2:48.2 effort in the 800 meters gave her first place in the 4A-1 district meet by more than 20 meters.

Austin Easterling paced the boys scoring with a third place in the 1600 (5:27.1) and a seventh place finish in the 800 (2:32.7). The Blackhawk girls and boys squads avoided the district basement by outpointing Farmington’s boys and girls teams to claim seventh place in both divisions.

The girls had their highest scoring total of the year with 33. Besides Morgan’s 10 points in the 800, eighth-grader Jerika Schooley scored 11 points by taking second in the discus throw (63-2) as well as sixth in the shot put (27-0).

The other big scorer in the meet was steady seventh-grader Riley Patrick who came in fourth in the 1600 (6:28.3) for 5 points.

The relay squads scored the remainder of the points with the 4x100 meter relay taking fourth (Mikhaela Cochran, Kayley Laster, Taylor Winn and Felecia Walker) with a 59.7 clocking. The 4x400 meter relay rounded out the girls’ scoring with a seventh place finish in 5:23.8. Relay runners were Patrick, Bailey Lessenberry, Destani Bell and Morgan.

Winn was the top 200 meter runner for the Lady ’Hawks, taking 13th in 32.97. Lessenberry was the 400 leader for Pea Ridge with a 1:15.32 clocking for 11th place.

Girls final standings were:

Berryville, 152; Shiloh, 108;

Gravette, 94; Prairie Grove, 87;

Huntsville, 80; Gentry, 59;

Pea Ridge, 33; and Farmington, 0.

In addition to Easterling’s individual points, Daniel Beard and Braxton Caudill scored for the ’Hawks with eighth place finishes in their events. Beard dashed to eighth in the 100 in 12.56 with Caudill flinging the discus 91-4 for eighth in that event. Other top finishers for the ’Hawks included: Beard, 9th in the 200 (26.50); DaltonMorgan, 12th in the 400 (63.85); and Adams, 10th in the long jump (15-8).

Relay squads scored half of the ’Hawk totals led by fourth place finishes in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays.

The 4x100 team of Beard, Logan Rose, Jonah Torres and Joe Adams finished in 49.74 with the 4x400 team of Rose, Morgan, Dayton Winn and Adams running it in 4:24.6. The 4x800 team of Justin Stamps, Earley, Winn and Dalton Oldenbecken placed seventh in 11:02.3.

Boys’ final point standings were

host Gentry, 165; Prairie Grove, 146;

Gravette, 109; Shiloh, 77;

Huntsville, 53; Berryville, 36;

Pea Ridge, 24; and Farmington, 6.
