Colonel Jefferson C. Davis, commander, 3rd Division, was promoted to brigadier general for his actions at Pea Ridge and transferred to the Army of the Cumberland. He began his military career as a private during the Mexican War and is not the same Jefferson Davis who was the president of the Confederate States. He died in Chicago in 1879.
