40 Years Ago

L.E. Hardy was elected president of the Pea Ridge Industrial Development Committee, according to Chamber of Commerce president Fred McKinney.

Other new officers were John Easley, Hearn Oliver and Keith Escue.

The “Miss Nanny Roberts” memorial fund got off the ground to a resounding start according to the chairman in charge, Miss Mable Hardy.

Counting the two checks received prior to the actual launching of the memorial fund drive, the total received stood at $73.

Easter egg winners in the junior division at the Beta Alpha egg hunt were Casey David, Wendy Fears, JasonJobe, Lance Jobe and Angela Sheppard. The children were pictured with Mary Jane Pistole, chairman of the hunt.

Former Sisco Funeral Home owner Billy Sisco and his late son-in-law Sam Spivey were honored by the Pea Ridge Chamber of Commerce. Sisco received the Ava Patterson Pioneer Spirit award for more than three decades of long-term service. Spivey, who drowned the previous summer in a boating accident, received the Fred McKinney Leadership Award for outstanding effort in organizing and maintaining the youth baseball program in Pea Ridge.

Tommy Lynch was honored by the Pea Ridge Lion’s Club as man of the year. He waspresented a plaque by Gary Reed, president of the club.

The Rev. John Gibson and his wife Stacey and daughters joined the Pea Ridge community as Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church’s pastor and family.

The Pea Ridge Blackhawks completed their 2000 1-AA conference double header schedule with total domination of Eureka Springs. The ’Hawks, behind outstanding pitching of T.J. Rogers and Michael Easterling, ended the games 15-2 and 16-0.

After nearly one year of fundraising, the “Pea Ridge” Day memorial plaque was dedicated that the “Pea Ridge” Day Memorial Little League park on Weston Street.
