— Always willing to help.

That’s how his friends remember Hugh Webb Jr., who died at his home Friday morning. Webb’s father was the founder of Webb’s Feed and Seed downtown.

“He was just a guy who was always willing to help,” John Easley, former mayor and City Council member, said.

“He was pretty much involved in everything,” Easley said, recalling the many chicken barbecues held to raise money.

Webb was one of the founders of Pea Ridge Little League baseball in 1958.

“He was a very avid Blackhawk and Razorback fan,” Dean Messer, former City Council member, said, adding Webb was always very involved in the community and helped with several things, Little League being one of the first.

Webb and his father were also instrumental in the development of the first Pea RidgeFootball program and the Pea Ridge Football Stadium in 1963.

Webb’s obituary is on page 3A of today’s TIMES.
