Homecoming week full of activities

Parade set for 2 p.m. Friday

— Homecoming activities will begin this year Monday night immediately after the volleyball game with a bonfire at the practice field next to Pea Ridge High School.

Tailgating in the high school parking lot will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday. The Junior-Senior Powder Puff football game will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the practice field.

Line up for the Homecoming parade will begin after the Powder Puff football game.

All clubs and organizations, as well as each class, will participate in the parade. There will be a banner contest and the winning banners will be hung at the football field before the big game.

The parade will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, and will run from behind the high school, between the middle school and the primary school, out to Weston Street. From Weston Street, the parade is scheduled to travel down Green Street to Pickens Road, on which it will travel through downtown, in front of Pea Ridge Intermediate School to Davis Street.

Once on Davis, the parade will travel to McIntosh Street and on to Curtis Ave, then turn from North Curtis Avenue onto McCullouch Street, back to Weston and finish at the high school.

The Homecoming ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Blackhawk Stadium.

Kickoff for the Homecoming game will follow the crowning of the 2009 Homecoming queen. Homecoming Events

The seventh-grade 'Hawks made a lone touchdown standup as they defeated the Gravette Lions 8-0 last week.

The 'Hawks parlayed the rushing ability of Shane Ivy and a hard-hitting defense to turn back the visitors. Ivy rushed for well in excess of 100 yards, including one 82-yard run that went from sideline to sideline as the first half clock expired. Running from his own 8-yard line with six seconds left in the half, Ivy very nearly scored until getting brought down near the 10-yard line.

The 'Hawks will play arch-rival Shiloh tomorrow in the preliminary game to the junior high contest. The 'Hawks went undefeated the past two years in fifth- and sixth-grade football except for their two battles with Shiloh. SPORTS BRIEF
