Thursday, Sept. 25, 1969

Pea Ridge businessman Jack Lasater was named to Pea Ridge School Board.

He was appointed to the board to fill the unexpired term of Lee Otis Hall, who resigned in August. A native of the community and descendant of pioneer settlers here, Lasater was a veteran of World War II and a retired major in the U.S. Army Reserve.

Randy Beaver, 11-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Beaver of Pea Ridge, posed with his 2-year-old Jr. Champion Bernadale, C.M. Missie, at the Benton County Fair. She was one of four entries made in the Junior Dairy Show Division by young Beaver, who won on all four entries.

Pea Ridge hit the big time, the Big Apple, "The New Yorker" magazine.

The Sept. 17 issue of "The New Yorker" carried a cartoon on "The Theater" page with no explanation, just a drawing that was labeled "Some actual names of towns in Arkansas." Pea Ridge was listed among Keevil, Magazine, Nimrod and others.

Following the arrest of three persons involved in forgeries and no-account check-passing charges, Pea Ridge Police Chief Lloyd Pifer issued a warning and request to all merchants and others involved incashing checks to be careful, to be sure that they check the driver's license of the person for whom the check is being cashed, know the person if possible and note the license number on the check.

Pea Ridge football players selected co-captains Rusty Webb and Joe Bray as their captains.

Mrs. Carmen Buttry was the first resident of Oak Ridge Retirement Lodge, moving in Sept. 16. She was a native of Pea Ridge and chose to spend the rest of her days there. She was impressed by the cleanliness, the friendliness and thenewness of it.

A three-bedroom house on a corner lot in Pea Ridge close to the bank and grocery store was listed in the classifieds being sold by Beck Scott Realty for $49,500.

The Missouri Highway 37 Flea Market in Seligman, Mo., was destroyed by a fire Friday night. The market contained 45 booths.

Owner Johnny Eggleston said that he believed that arson was the cause and that the damage would be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

An almost nonexistent wind turned into a nicebreeze just in time for the starting horn as dozens of boats from the Beaver Lake Sailing Club, located in Garfield, participated in the second annual NEBCO Regatta on Beaver Lake. The race raised funds for the volunteer fire department.

Barbara Owen celebrated her 30-year anniversary with the Bank of Pea Ridge.

She began as a "go-fer," then a cashier then vice president in the lending area. In 1997, she became president of the bank.

Eighty-eight Pea Ridge students were pictured gathered at the flagpole to celebrate the national event "See You at the Pole." Pea Ridge had one of the largest percentages of its students to gather.
