PEA RIDGE — QUILT meeting

Q.U.I.L.T of Northwest Arkansas will hold its regular monthly meeting beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Holiday Inn in Springdale. Come early to visit with fellow quilters, meet the guest speaker and buy fabric from the vendor. Members are encouraged to attend and guests are welcome. Judy Irish, from Washington, will present her lecture titled, "Living on the Raw Edge."

On Friday, Sept. 25, Judy will teach a class on fabric and fiber collage. The workshop will be held at the Central United Methodist Church from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $30. For information on the workshop, e-mail Donna Thomas at dtdonna@cox. net or call 268-4235.

Bunker Hill Club news

BUNKER HILL, Mo. - The September club meeting was called to order at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10, by president Debbie Ziemianin. Hostess for the day was Betty. Her devotional was emphasizing the fact that we need to do things for others. Even the smallest deed is better by far than good intentions.

Roll call for the day was our favorite pie. Roll call was answered by Mary Sue Gordon, Arlena Painter, Debbie Ziemianin, Betty Higgs, Grace Brown, Bonnie Mc-Cool, Shirley Alps and Linda Johnson. The group wished Dorothy Houseman, Bonnie McCool and Linda Johnson happy birthday this month.

Show and tell given included Grace (bowl made by sister using clothesline rope and material), Shirley (Christmas wall hangings used as gifts), Mary Sue (picture of flying squirrel and a maple leaf quilt), Bonnie (pictures of Bunker gals and family) and Linda (pictures taken at Homecoming 09).

Secretary and treasurer's reports were read and approved. Flower fund report was given by Betty. The new flower fund balance is $166.08.

In old business, motion was made by Debbie and seconded by Betty to set up at Oktoberfest. The next luncheon on the square will be Monday, Sept. 28, with a variety of soups and ham/ beans.

In new business, Debbie and Linda to set up at local Wal-Mart to sell raffle tickets on this year's quilt. If anyone is interested in buying raffle tickets, call 223-7181 or 223-4684. The next monthly singing will resume on Saturday, Oct. 3, in the school house. Bring your instruments and voices and share with those who attend. An electrician did some work on the community center. Just a reminder that the community center is available to the public for activities. The charge for its use is a donation toward utilities used and upkeep. If you are interested in using the facility, call the above numbers for more information.

The program for the day by Betty was an interesting one on the facts and myths about copperhead snakes. It's that time of the year again to be watchful as they will be making their way into hibernation.

Bingo was won by all who played. Our next meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 8, with Dee Dee as hostess. COMMUNITY CALENDAR

NEBCO fundraiser

GARFIELD - The 16th annual NEBCO Turkey Shoot will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the NEBCO fire station No. 1, U.S. Hwy. 62 and S. Wimpy Jones Road. In addition to the ever popular shotgun, poker and clay bird turkey shoots, there will be bingo, both silent and live auctions, an all-day long raffle with great prizes, the human bowling ball game, live music, plus games and prizes for the kids.

This year's lunch features ribs, pulled pork or chicken, with baked beans, coleslaw, dessert and drink. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children under 10. A concession stand will be open throughout the day with drinks, snacks and snow cones.

Once again, the NEBCO Turkey Shoot will feature their 6th annual "Rib Cookoff." Judging for the Rib Cookoff will be at noon, and shortly after that racks of ribs may be purchased directly from the various cooks. 21st Annual Pea Ridge Mule Jump

The 21st annual Pea Ridge Mule Jump will be held beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at Pea Ridge High School. There will be halter class, a stick mule event for children, barrel and flag races, pole bending, hog calling and of course mule jumping!

The Flying Mule, a 5K run, will also be held preceding the event. Registration will begin at 6:45 a.m., with the race starting at 7:30 a.m. Entry fees will be $12 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under.

VFW four person scramble

Big Sugar Golf Club and VFW Post 8109 will hold a four person scramble at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, with a rainout date set for Sunday, Oct. 11.

Entry is $240 per team or $60 per person. Sign up at Big Sugar Golf Club, Arvest Bank or Community First Bank. No one under 21 years of age please.

Prizes will go to the four closest to pin and the four longest drives. Mulligans will be available for $5, one per nine holes, two per player. There will also be lunch, a silent auction and door prizes.
