— Garfield fundraiser

GARFIELD - Garfield Elementary School will be holding a chili supper fundraiser Friday, Oct. 2 beginning at 5:30 at the NEBCO Community Room. Tickets are $5 each for anyone 5 and older. Entertainment will be provided by the Shady Grove Bluegrass and raffle tickets will be sold for $1 each or 6 for $5.

Drinks for music

Students at Pea Ridge Primary School will have new musical instruments thanks to Sonic.

Sonic has pledged to spend over half a million dollars to fund teacher inspired projects through a website called donorschoose.org. Sonic is currently placing stickers on all their cups. Inside each sticker is a code whereby votes can be cast for a favorite school project on their website limeadesforlearning.com.

April Smith, music teacher at Pea Ridge, is currently the only teacher in the district who has any projects listed on the website. She said she just learned that the program has provided the funds to buy the new elemen tary four glockenspiels (about a 500 dollar cost).

Smith said there are currently no instruments at the new school. She said a classroom set of instruments ranges from $5,000 to about $10,000.

Saved stickers may be sent to school with students, dropped off at the school or people can go online and enter the codes themselves. To find the projects, search by subject: music and then by location: state: Ark.

Traffic flow

Parents wanting to pick up their children at Pea Ridge Primary School before the end of school may drive in the exit lane (the south lane) if the entrance lane (north lane) is blocked but are warned to watch for oncoming traffic. Driving around the waiting cars will be allowed until 2:50 p.m. or unless the parking lot is full, according to school officials.
