Purpose and Goal of Meeting: In accordance with state law, school districts annually will report to the public.

The annual report is given to improve public school accountability and to provide benchmarks for measuring individual school improvement.

Beginning in 2006, each school district is required to document school board members’ training and report their training at the annual public report. Effective January 1, 2006, school board members are required to get six hours of training every calendar year.

The Pea Ridge School District is continuously looking for methods to improve school safety. A few of these methods include participating in regular drills, maintaining and updating the district crisis plan along with crisis drills and providing safety training for employees. Professional development workshops and conferences also provide the district with new methods and processes to improve school safety.

DISCIPLINE POLICY

The Pea Ridge School District distributed the school’s discipline policy at the beginning of the school year to all parents in each building’s handbook. A confirmation note is returned to ensure the handbook was received at home.

DISCIPLINE TRAINING

The school’s teachers, administrators, classified employees and volunteers have been provided with appropriate training.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT PLAN

The Pea Ridge School District has adopted a parental involvement plan in compliance with Act 6-15-1702.

Each building has a parental involvement representative and a designated parental involvement center.

Reading Deficiency and Parental Notice: Pea Ridge Primary School screens all children in grades K-2 for any reading problems that may exist. Pea Ridge Elementary uses the Developmental Reading Assessment to determine a child’s reading level. Parents are notified if their child has been identified with reading difficulties before placement in our literacy program.

Those children with reading difficulties are served in Literacy Groups until their deficiency is corrected. All students K-2 participate daily in classroom literacyinstruction. In the regular classroom, we have implemented ELLA for Grades K-1 and ELF for grade 2 to address their needs.

Criterion Referenced Tests (CRT)-

Students are assessed using four performance levels. Students are ranked as Advanced, Proficient, Basic, or Below Basic.The CRT is designed to assess whether the student demonstrates attainment of knowledge and skills necessary for mastery of the subject.The goal is for all students to be proficient or advanced by 2012.Test results show the percent of students that are proficient or advanced at each level.

Arnold in Alpha Chi

JOPLIN, Mo. - Emily Arnold of Pea Ridge was one of over 100 students initiated into the Missouri Iota Chapter of Alpha Chi, a national scholastic honor society, at Missouri Southern State University during ceremonies on Sunday, Sept. 27 on the MSSU campus.

To be eligible for the organization juniors or seniors must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.7 or above.

Arnold is a junir majoring in marketing.

Alpha Chi is a coeducational society whose purpose is to promote academic excellence and exemplary character among college and university students and to honor those who achieve such distinction. Its name derives from the initial letters of the Greed words Aletheia, meaning truth, and Xarakter, meaning character.

Students joining Alpha Chi can expect several benefits of membership.

Each inductee receives a recognition pin and a membership certificate.

Each member is eligible to participate in the varying activities of the society.

Alpha Chi has existed since 1922 and has beenaffiliated with the Association of College Honor Societies since 1955.

Garfield Elementary School Fall Carnival

Garfield Elementary’s Fall Carnival will be heldfrom 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, in the school gym.

This is a school fundraiser to raise money to purchase musical instruments.

There will be kids games,face painting, bean bag toss, fish pond and cake walk, plus raffles, bingo and food. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Bingo is $.50 per game.
