Prospective UA students invited to Bumpers College 'family night'

— High school students and their parents are invited to learn about majors offered by Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas during a “family night” event from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, at the Benton County Extension Office auditorium, 1204 SW 14th Street, in Bentonville.

Ashley Harris, Bumpers College student and alumni relations coordinator, said the college offers 14 diverse majors for students interested in plants, animals, food, business, the natural environment and the human environment.

“Prospective students are often surprised at the diversity of our majors and careers that are open to our graduates,” Harris said.

She said some majors prepare graduates for careers in production, business, education, research and service with an agricultural or environmental focus. Others prepare graduates for careers in the apparel and fashion industry, interior design, health and nutrition, hospitality and human development.

The event will include a short presentation by a local alumnus of Bumpers College and discussion of scholarships, opportunities for study abroad, an honors program, clubs and other topics.

Bumpers College majors are agricultural business; agricultural education, communication and technology; animal science; apparel studies; biological engineering; crop management; environmental, soil and water science; food, human nutrition and hospitality; food science; general human environmental sciences; horticultural, landscape and turf sciences; human development, family sciences and rural sociology; interior design and poultry science.

Details about the college and each major are available online at: bumperscollege.uark.edu. For more information about the family night event, contact Judy Fenton, 271-1006, or [email protected].
