Democratic Women’s Club

Laura Kellams will speak to the Benton County Democratic Women’s Club on Monday, Oct. 26, at the Bentonville Clarion Inn. Kellams is the Northwest Arkansas director of Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families (AACF). Arkansas Advocates is a statewide organization that works to improve public policies on behalf of the state’s children. Since 1977, AACF has worked to improve the state’s health, education, tax, child welfare and juvenile justice systems in an effort to ensure that all children live up to their full potential.

Prior to 2008 when AACF opened its northwest Arkansas office with Kellams as its first director, she was a reporter for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for 11 years, covering politics, government and regional affairs in a 12-county region. Kellams has a journalism degree from the University of Arkansas and has lived in the area for more than 20 years. She lives with her husband Kyle in Fayetteville.

Quilt Guild of NWA

SPRINGDALE — To welcome fall, Nellie Mueller from Pacific, Mo., will visit with members of the QUILT Guild of Northwest Arkansas.

Her program is titled “Quilt Soup.” Grandma Ima Quilter mixes up a kettle of fun with “a little of this and a pinch of that.”

“Quilt Soup” is a humorous look at many quiltrelated topics, all of them funny and all too true. It is a rib-tickling dish! Includes a trunk show.

Costume Contest

Come join us from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at Movie Gallery in Pea Ridge. There will be free games such as apple bobbing and a cake walk, a costume contest, prizes, face painting and free food.

Museum has gifts

A free treat bag will be given to the first 100 children in costume under the age of 12 who tour the Pea Ridge Historical Society Museum in downtown Pea Ridge on Halloween from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Library gives treats

Treat bags will be given to children “trick or treating” from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Pea Ridge Community Library.

Illusionist to entertain

An illusionist, Randall Eller, with an evangelical message will be at First Baptist Church, Pea Ridge, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. Children are encouraged to come early to have their photograph taken in their costumes.

Trunk or Treat candy give away

The 9th annual Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church Trunk or Treat will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, in the church parking lot. We will park in the parking lot, decorate our trunks with Halloween ghosts and goblins, make sure we have plenty of candy to give away and wait for the kids to come by.

Hallelujah Happening & Trunk or Treat Carnival

GARFIELD — The First Baptist Church, Garfield, will hold their Hallelujah Trunk or Treat Carnival from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. The church considers this as a safe alternative to Halloween and will have booths with games and candy.

Spook Trail

SELIGMAN, Mo. — Seligman Fire Protection District will host its 12th annual Spook Trail Oct. 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31. Tickets will be available beginning at 8 p.m. until midnight. The charge is $5 per body, children under 5 are free.

Concessions are available. We have fires in our waiting area, but advise everyone to dress warmly. Come out, have a good time and support the fire department. We are asking that no one bring alcohol on the premises. All proceeds go to the support of the organization.

Hot Rod Pull

SELIGMAN, Mo. — Mini Hot Rod pull will be at Seligman, Mo., starting at 1 p m Saturday, Oct. 17, located between Freedom Bank and Ruby’s Liquor on Missouri Highway 37. Booger County Mini Hot Rod association from Huntsville, Ark., will be the main attraction, locals are welcome to come and enter the competition with hot rod lawn mowers or ATVs. A grudge match will be held, with Sheriff Mick Epperly, pastor Jack Cain, Chamber director Neal Stanley, Chamber director Susie Temples, Chamber director Harold Blair, and tractor pull pro James Townsend.

The Salvation Army is offering Christmas assistance for low-income families in Benton Counties. Toy assistance is for children 12 years and under only. Legal guardians or custodial parents must register.

New Country Music Hall

SELIGMAN, Mo. — Seligman , Mo. has a new Country Music hall — Hudson Hall LLC. Owners Johnny and Belinda Hudson opened the music hall on Aug. 8, and they will be having a show every other Saturday night, the next show will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.

The music hall is located on Missouri Highway 37 north of Seligman just before the city limits. The band is Ozark Mountain Drifters, the best country band in the Ozarks. No alcohol allowed, no smoking inside. Bring the entire family for a entertaining night.

Johnny and Belinda are from Rogers, Ark. They play in Bella Vista, and has traveled entertaining across the country. The hall will hold 130 people and has a state of the art sound system. The band consist of Johnny Hudson, vocal and rhythm guitar; Vance Monday, steel guitar, fiddle, Dobro; Lila Monday , vocals and percussion; Wayne Kirby, lead guitar, vocals; Darrell May, Bass guitar, vocals, Bart O'Neal, vocals, fiddle, guitar; and Chris Bryant, drums and vocals. Yard of the Season

A “Yard of the Season” contest is being sponsored by the Women’s Business Association.

Applications for the fall yard nominations can be picked up at Arvest Bank, Farmers Insurance or Pea Ridge City Hall. Application deadline is Monday, Oct. 19. Winner will receive a $50 gift certificate from The Ground Up Nursery and a “Fall Yard Of The Season” sign to be placed in their yard.

The WBA are sponsors and supporters of the City of Pea Ridge Beautification projects and the Pea Ridge Community Scholarship Foundation. Meetings are at 11:30 a.m. each fourth Thursday of the month in the Arvest Bank front conference room.

Town Hall meeting

GARFIELD — Congressman John Boozman, Arkansas 3rd District U.S. representative, will hold a Town Hall Meeting Monday, Oct. 19, in Garfield.

The meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. in the Northeast Benton County Community Center, 17823 Marshall St. (U.S. Hwy. 62). Late arrivals are welcome. Seating is limited to 184.

Congressman Boozman’s appearance is co-sponsored by the cities of Garfield and Gateway, the Lost Bridge Village Community Association, the Ventris Neighborhood Association and NEBCO Volunteer Fire Department.

Bronctober-Fest

VAS Ambulance Service Corporation will hold the first ever Bronctober-Fest and Rodeo at 8 p.m. nightly Friday, Oct. 23, and Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Benton County Fairgrounds in Bentonville.

Events include bareback, calf roping, saddle bronc, barrel racing, steer wrestling, team roping, bull riding, cowboy poker, kids’ calf scramble and freestyle bullfighting Saturday night. Entry fee is $50. A muzzleloader will be awarded to the bareback, barrel racing and saddle bronc champions.

A Henry Big Boy .45 Colt is to be raffled off Saturday, Oct. 24. Must be 21 years to enter and present to win.

Admission is $10 adults, $5 children with six and under free.

5K benefit run

A D.A.S.H. to Remember 5K run/walk will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Ryan Mondy Memorial T-ball Field to raise money to benefit the Ryan Mondy Memorial Scholarship. Entry forms are available at Arvest Bank in Pea Ridge and Rush Running in Bentonville. Entry is $15 for the one mile 12 and under, $25 over 12, $25 all ages for the 5K. Participants receive a T-shirt and goody bag.

Driver Safety Course

GARFIELD — AARP will be conducting a Driver Safety Program for all who would like to attend from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, at the NEBCO Community Center in Garfield.

The class is open to all and membership in AARP is not necessary. Cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members.

Jamie Lynn Warbis and Billy Joshua Morgan

Warbis-Morgan set to wed

Jamie Lynn Warbis of Bella Vista, Ark., and Billy Joshua Morgan of Pea Ridge are pleased to announce their engagement and approaching marriage.

The couple plan to marry at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at Chapel on the Creeks in Rogers.

Warbis is the daughter of LuAnn and Rex Werts of Bella Vista and Kelly and Sara Warbis of Laguna Hills, Calif. She is the granddaughter of Louis and Irene Winkelbauer of Somers, Iowa, Bill Warbis of Orlando, Fla., and Nanci Warbis of Coca Beach, Fla. She is a 1998 graduate of Bentonville High School and a 2002 graduate of the University of Arkansas with a bachelor’s degree in finance. She is employed as a replenishment analyst for Sun Products Corp. in Bentonville.

Morgan is the son of Sandy and Jerry Morgan of Pea Ridge. He is the grandson of Jerry and Betty Morgan of Springdale, Ark., Lillie Morgan of Pea Ridge and the late Sue and Billy Talburt. He is a 1998 graduate of Pea Ridge High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1999 to 2003, serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is employed as a press operator for Cryovac in Rogers. Kiwanis Club

BELLA VISTA — The Bella Vista Kiwanis Club, responding to interest shown for an evening club, will hold a informational meeting beginning with dinner at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Bella Vista Country Club.

Anybody wanting to learn more about the organization, or interested in joining, is invited to attend. Dinner, off the Country Club menu, is Dutch treat.

If the evening gathering is successful, it will become a satellite of the main breakfast club and will meet monthly. Both daytime and evening members will be involved in the club’s many community events and fundraisers.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time. Kiwanians are volunteers changing the world through service to children and communities. Kiwanis members help shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, mentor the disadvantaged, and care for the sick. They develop youth as leaders, build playgrounds, raise funds for pediatric research and much more.

Kiwanis has approximately 8,000 clubs in 96 countries, with more than 260,000 members.

The morning meetings are held at 7 a.m. every Thursday at the Country Club. Anybody is welcome to attend.

Steak dinner benefit

BELLA VISTA — Bella Vista American Legion Post 341 will host a ranch style steak dinner from 4-8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24 at the Post. The dinner will include steak, all the trimmings and coffee or tea for $10.

The Post is located at 1889 Bella Vista Way, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 71 and Kingsland Road. All proceeds go to the Legion’s building fund. Tickets are available from any Legion member.

Poinsettia sale

BELLA VISTA — The annual Bella Vista Kiwanis Club poinsettia sale is under way.

The plants, in red, white or salmon, are $10 each and stand 16-20 inches tall. Each will have six to nine blooms.

Plants are being sold by all members of the Bella Vista Kiwanis Club and will be delivered on Dec. 3. Special delivery options are available.

Proceeds from this sale go toward the club’s many community projects.

Sacred Harp Singing School

The Northwest Arkansas Sacred Harp Singers will hold an old-fashioned singing school at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9. The school will be taught by David Ivey, secretary of the Sacred Harp Musical Heritage Association in Huntsville, Ala.

Exhibit of Oddities opens

What’s Its, an exhibit of oddities from the Shiloh Museum collections, will open Monday, Oct. 12.

“The exhibit will feature items which were fairly common in the past, but look strange in today’s world,” said Curtis Morris, museum exhibits manager.

What’s Its will be on exhibit through March 27, 2010.

Madison County History program slated

Joy Russell, president of the Madison County Genealogical and Historical Society, will present “How Life Changed in Madison County in the 1860s,” at noon Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Accident School Reunion

The Accident School reunion will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24. Accident was a rural school located northeast of Springdale; classes were held there from the 1870s until consolidation with Springdale in 1949. All former Accident School students, teachers, family and friends are invited.
