— Brightwater Memorial United Methodist Church

The annual Harvest bazaar is set for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 14, 15 and 16 at the church on U.S. Highway 62 between Avoca and Garfield. Lunch will be served starting at 11:30 a.m.

First Baptist Church, Pea Ridge

TeamKID programs have begun for children 4 years through sixth grade. It meets from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays.

An illusionist, Randall Eller, with an evangelical message will be at church from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. Children are encouraged to come early to have their photograph taken in their costumes.

Bible drills will meet from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Wednesday and will begin soon.

A Women of Faith conference will be held Oct.

The Angel Food Ministries is a program that offers food to anyone. Orders for meals are taken twice per month. The meals can feed a family of four for a week for about $30.

Senior meal plans are also available. This program also accepts food stamps.

First Baptist Church, Garfield

Men’s Bible study is from 6 to 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

October is “Fantastic Fall Evangelism Extravaganza:” Sunday is an “Extravaganza of Music.” Southern Cross, with Alana Damron, will lead the 10:30 a.m. worship.

A concert with “The Brush Creek Boys” will be at 7 p.m.

Messiah Luther Church

In the 10:30 a.m. worship service Oct. 18 Messiah Lutheran Church will install Pastor Neil Vanderbush as the permanent pastor and receive the charter from the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Refreshments and drinks will be served.

The community is invited.

Sunday School will be at 9:30 a.m.

The children's ministry will be at 6:30 p.m.

Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church, Pea Ridge

We will pick up roadside trash on Saturday, Oct. 24.

Girl Scout Troop No.

5053 will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Mondays in Fellowship Hall.

Our 9th annual Trunk or Treat will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, in the church parking lot. We will park in the parking lot, decorate our trunks with Halloween ghosts and goblins, make sure we have plenty of candy to give away and wait for the kids to come by.

New Prospect Baptist Church, Garfield

A concert featuring Ronnie Warren from Springfield, Mo., is set for 11 a.m.

Sunday, Oct. 18. Warren plays several different instruments and sings. Everyone is invited to come.

“Spoken 4,” of Branson, Mo., will be in concert Friday, Nov. 6.

The church donates to God’s Pantry in our community now at Dennett’s Hardware on U.S. Hwy. 62.

Free Will Baptist Church, Pea Ridge

Bro. Jason Helmer will be bringing the message in the evening service on Sunday, Oct. 18.

River of Faith, Mountain, Mo.

The Race of Faith Cowboy Challenge series will be sponsored by the River of Faith church at Mountain, Mo.

Events begin at 8 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 23, with a dinner and gathering around the bonfire featuring Billy Snow, cowboy musician from Colorado Springs, Colo. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, and the obstacle challenge begins at 10 a.m. There will be an evening hayride at 8 p.m. Saturday, ending at Snow’s Red Barn for a country Western dance.

Cowboy church begins at 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, followed by the championship round of the obstacle challenge at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Primitive camping will be available on site and continental breakfast each morning.

Bella Vista Christian Church, Bella Vista

A women’s Tuesday morning Bible study is held at 9:30 a.m. 2:42 Life Groups are underway. Anyone interested in joining a small group that meets at various homes or at the church during the week are asked to call the church office at 855-1616.

Tickets are available for a senior ministry charter bus trip to see the musical “The Miracle of Christmas” at the Sights and Sounds Theatre in Branson on Nov.

Thursday, Oct. 16, 1969

Homecoming kicked off Friday with an assembly and powderpuff football game. The annual parade made its way through town, followed later by the football game. Serving on the 1969 homecoming court were Linda Bell, Patsy Boyd, Carolyn Grimes, Lori Vansandt, Peggy McKinney, Vicki Orndorf and Connie Hatfield.

All local men able to serve as volunteer firemen were urged to attend a fireman’s training school offered in November by the State Department of Education. The school made the city eligible for a reduction in insurance rates.

An editorial in this week’s paper urged the city’s police department to provide a night patrolmen to watch over Pea Ridge.

According to the editorial, it was considered foolish to keep two law enforcement officials on duty during the day and toleave the town completely unprotected at night.

Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene Wednesday, Oct. 17, 1979

Pea Ridge City Council met and discussed the enactment of a trash ordinance - issuing permits to operate solid waste collection services in the city, a burning ordinance, the annexation of nearby land to straighten the boundaries of the city and the establishment of the local library.

With practically no rain for weeks, the city of Pea Ridge was tinder dry and forecasts for the coming week did not offer much hope of relief. It was urged that everyone exercised great caution in burning on their land.

The Times of Northeast Benton County Thursday, Oct. 19, 1989

The chairman of the first ever Pea Ridge Lions Club Mule Jump said that the following year’s will be even bigger and better. The competition began shortlybefore 11 a.m. and continued until 3 p.m. and mules from a number of states competed in 11 events.

Pea Ridge homecoming queen Jennifer Patton was escorted by Joel Easterling and Brian Wright.

10 Years Ago The Times of Northeast Benton County

Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999

The two biggest issues facing the Pea Ridge Military Park in the coming years were said to be the proposed expansion of U.S. Hwy. 62 and the rapid growth of the area, according to Steve Adams, park superintendent. The park was in the early stages of developing a General Management Plan, the first the park developed since it was established by Congress in July 1956.

John Easley, city alderman and owner of Easley’s Hardware, greeted the crowd in a photograph as he served as Grand Marshal of the 1999 Pea Ridge High School Homecoming Parade on Oct. 8.
