Students win money for art

— Pea Ridge Elementary artists racked up over $100 in prize money while taking home 11 first-place ribbons at the annual Benton County Fair Arts competition held recently.

First-grader Gracie Easterling was the big winner, taking two firsts.

She exhibited an acrylic butterflies along with a tempera flower painting.

Tyler Quam, kindergarten, won first in a tempera color design with firstgrader Dillon Brouse winning a blue ribbon with an acrylic flower painting. Cailber Landis, first grade, took top honors with a crayon drawing of George Washington; Neil Scrogham, first grade, won with a tempera still life; Jacob Jarding, second grade, won with a crayon drawing of a tiger; Alex Trammel, second grade, was first with a tempera landscape; Leala Sorrell, third grade, was first with a monochromatic Albert Einstein, Braeden Kennedy, third grade, was first with a black and white action picture; with Haley Messer, fifth grade, winning first with a charcoal portrait.

Seven Pea Ridge artists also earned prize money,taking home second-place awards. Colin Shepherd, first grade, tempera landscape; Cody McGarrah, first grade, crayon frog;

Halley Laster, third grade, tempera scarecrow; Ashley Hanson, third grade, crayon landscape; Tori Scrogam, third grade, tempera dandelion; Clayton Brown, fifth grade, charcoal horse; and Logan Johnson, fifth grade, tempera dogwood.

Earning third places include: Holden O’Neal, second grade; Braeden Kennedy, third grade; Alex Wilkerson, third grade;

Haedon Nichols, third grade; Wyatt Weber, fifth grade; Tanner Flippo, fifthgrade, Avery Dayberry, fifth grade, and Melissa Landis, fifth grade.

There was one Middle School student, Ashton Kennedy, who also entered the competition.

She also brought home ribbons and prize money, taking second and third place ribbons

Pea Ridge had their string of four straight “Best of Show” winners broken. The overall winner was Ava Little, kindergarten student at Cooper Elementary in Bella Vista, who is the granddaughter of Pea Ridge art teacher John McGee. Eric Snarr of Pea Ridge was last year’s “Best of Show” winner.
