Brightwater Memorial United Methodist Church

The annual Harvest bazaar is set for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 14, 15 and 16 at the church on U.S. Highway 62 between Avoca and Garfield. Lunch will be served starting at 11:30 a.m.

First Baptist Church, Pea Ridge

TeamKID programs have begun for children 4 years through sixth grade.

It meets from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays.

An illusionist, Randall Eller, with an evangelical message will be at church from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. Children are encouraged to come early to have their photograph taken in their costumes.

Bible drills will meet from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Wednesday and will begin soon.

A Women of Faith conference will be held Oct.

The Angel Food Ministries is a program that offers food to anyone. Orders for meals are taken twice per month. The meals can feed a family of four for a week for about $30.

Senior meal plans are also available. This program also accepts food stamps.

Free Will Baptist Church, Pea Ridge

Men’s Prayer Breakfast group will meet at 8 a.m.

Messiah Lutheran

Messiah Lutheran is planning an exciting October beginning with the monthly potluck after services on Sunday, Oct. 11.

Messiah has received our charter from the Missouri Synod in St. Louis and have called pastor Neil Vanderbush as pastor. Be sure to plan and come at 6 p.m.

on Wednesdays for our children’s ministry. Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m. and worship service begins at 10:30 a.m. We have fellowship, coffee and treats after church.

Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church, Pea Ridge

We will pick up roadside trash on Saturday, Oct. 24.

Meet at the church at 9 a.m

Girl Scout Troop No.

5053 will be meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Mondays in Fellowship Hall.

Our 9th annual Trunk or Treat will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, in the church parking lot. We will park in the parking lot, decorate our trunks with Halloween ghosts and goblins, make sure we have plenty of candy to give away and wait for the kids to come by. Many kids from our community stop by the church on this night so let’ make this event especially fun.

New Prospect Baptist Church, Garfield

A concert featuring Ronnie Warren from Springfield, Mo., is set for 11 a.m.

Sunday, Oct. 18. Warren plays several different instruments and sings.

River of Faith, Mountain, Mo.

The Race of Faith Cowboy Challenge series will be sponsored by the River of Faith church at Mountain, Mo.

Events begin at 8 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 23, with a dinner and gathering around the bonfire featuring Billy Snow, cowboy musician from Colorado Springs, Colo. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, and the obstacle challenge begins at 10 a.m. There will be an evening hayride at 8 p.m. Saturday, ending at Snow’s Red Barn for a country Western dance.

Cowboy church begins at 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, followed by the championship round of the obstacle challenge at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Primitive camping will be available on site and continental breakfast each morning.

Village Bible Evangelical Free, Bella Vista

We will have a concert starting at 11 a.m. Sun., Oct. 18, with Ronnie Warren.

Warren, from Springfield, Mo., plays several instruments and sings.

40 Years Ago Pea Ridge Graphic

Thursday, Oct. 9, 1969

Once again, there was an attempt made to organize a Girl Scout Troop in Pea Ridge. Mrs. James Wright in Pea Ridge had been a Girl Scout leader and counselor for several years in another community and volunteered to serve as leader here.

Pleading guilty to violating Pea Ridge’s “dog law,” Olin Hudson was fined $5 in the court of Justice Judge P.R. McLaughlin.

The charge was pertaining to the ordinance prohibiting dogs from becoming public nuisances.

A new Admiral Console Stereo AM and FM four speed record changer was listed for sale in the classified ads for only $189.95.

Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene

Avoca’s request for $2,000 from the Arkansas Rural Community Grant program was approved and being processed according to a report from Governor Bill Clinton.

The money was intended for the Avoca Volunteer Fire Department and was part of a total $85,100 in matching grants during the first quarter of the fiscal year.

A bluegrass benefit show sponsored by the Pea Ridge Community Library grossed $385, with most of that raised by advanced ticket sales. Librarian Pauline Boepple expressed satisfaction with the event, and said the proceeds would go into the generallibrary fund.

This week, Stylistics and Shrum’s held their grand openings in the new Battlefield Center in Pea Ridge.

The Times of Northeast Benton County Thursday, Oct. 12, 1989

The 1989 Pea Ridge High School Homecoming activities included a football game against Elkins, during which the football team selected the homecoming queen from two maids from each class.

Other activities included Drama Club Olympics, a Pep Rally and a parade.

Jackie Crabtree defeated Donna Beaver by 34 votes in the Pea Ridge School District’s runoff election.

The media and computer center that would replace the existing libraries was his first concern.

Pea Ridge bike-a-thon coordinator Beverly Morrison asked Pea Ridge residents to join the St.

Jude Children’s Research Hospital “Wheels for life” bike-a-thon Oct. 14. The ride was intended to fuel the fight against childhood cancer.

The Times of Northeast Benton County

Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999

Skiatook, Okla., resident Boop Williams took home the Negel Hall Memorial Award from the 11th annual Pea Ridge Mule Jump with his mule, Red. The Hall award was presented byPeggy Hall, widow of the late Negel Hall. Boop commented that Hall’s mule out-jumped Red. A crowd of roughly 2,000 attended the event that attracted some 25 competitors.

After a short meeting, the Pea Ridge Board of Education and administers toured the new high school, which was under construction. Walls were up on much of the building and, with maps, the tour group could identify the various sections of the school.

Salinda Todd was crowned 1999 Pea Ridge High School Homecoming Queen at an assembly that Friday afternoon by her escorts Jason Villines and Ben Sebree.
